What McCLAINs...........I had McCLAINs in Pike Co as well as COOK............thanks pj > > In the Pike County IL Pages from 1880 Pike County History by Chas. C. Chapman & Co. it is stated that the first death in New Salem was a "Mr Carrington" in 1834. My ancestor, Lucinda Carrington was head of house in Pike Co in 1830, which would indicate that this Mr Carrington was not her husband, but perhaps a brother-in-law or older son. > > Are there any still existing newspapers for that time in New Salem area? Where would I obtain them? Or, are the death records for that time period still available? How can I obtain them? Knowing his first name and any other information would be valuable. > > Any help in finding sources or actual information would be much appreciated. I am trying to determine the birth family of Lucinda's husband, Asa, who apparently died before 1830, possibly in Morgan County. The Carrington's were associated with the Matthews, Chenowith, McClain, Ayers and Wilson families, migrating with them from Kentucky.
