Most of these papers are dated Oct. 30, 1905. There are 13 pages, giving character references, past jobs he held, etc. It says he was born in Barry, Ill. I bought 7 of these packets hoping to find relatives that may be able to use them for their genealogy and hoped one was one of my relatives, turns out he wasn't, of course. If your interested I'd just like to get my money back. I paid $5.00 ea. for these packets, and I'm not sure what it would cost to mail, but if your interested I'll find out and let you know. Many thanks for helpful information. I have called the county clerk's office and will be sending for the copy of certificate. Barb
Capps, Venables and Simpsons I am not sure about the Capps and Ark., but it is very likely as some of the Mo. Capps went to Ark. My Capps lines were Jacob Capps who lived in or near Pleasant Hill about 1850--- and 2x great grandmother, Jemima Capps who married Charles Hubbard ca. 1790 probably in N.C. Hiram Capps, born ca 1806, died September 1, 1878 in Ark. son of Sampson Capps born The Venables were a large family, parents John Richard Venable and wife Rachel Pursely, they did scatter out. My great grandmother was Sarah Elvira Venable their oldest daughter who married Joseph Hubbard in 1842 in Pike co. Several of the sons came to Oregon with Sarah and Joseph, some of the children stayed in Pike co. David Hubbard Simpson had a daughter, Samantha born ca. 1840, married first Washington S. Lemley, had a daughter, Mary Ellen born July 1857. May also had a daughter Flora who married Mathius Bradley. Samantha divorced W.S. Lemley and later married Jacob Turnbaugh, as his second wife. Had at least one son, William E born about 1874. Samatha died after 1906. Any help or connections to these families would help--I will exchange information I am going to be gone between June 16 and 23. but will reply when I return. Clara

Barb, The red listings in the IL Statewide Death Index indicate that the record is not available at the IL State Archives and must be obtained from the county in which the death occurred. I have some information on the Bentley family. Are you interested in a brother of Sophronia, who married Conner? I have some on Newman/Numan Bentley, the brother who married twice, 1st to Jane Hall Hoyt in 1848 (9 children born to this union). Second marriage was to Mary E _____? abt. 1874 (2 children born to this union - Alvin W b. 1880 and Wm. O b. 1886). I have the descendants of Alvin. Do you know the maiden name of Newman's second wife, Mary E? If anything I have is of interest to you, let me know. I have much of the census information on Bentley's in Pike Co. Can you advise me of the best place to get a death record for Pike Co. in 1945. When I go to the Illinois Archives site, it indicates the dates don't include 1949 as allowable for certificates. When I went to the Pike Co Court house, the indication was that it didn't include the year 1945. Same for the list for Illinois Death Index. The one I want shows up in the Illinois Death Index, but the date is in red letters (certificate not available). I didn't think 1949 was so recent as to be a problem. Thanks. Barb
There's an article in the Quincy Herald-Whig about New Philadelphia, and it mentions that there's going to be a Family History Workshop for people who are researching ancestors who were connected with New Philadelphia and Hadley Township.
