Ira Wilson Cline was my grandfather. Looking for my mothers nieces or nephews. Ira was married to Helen Poffenbarger. She died in 1920, but he had a wife before her and had a son, Arthur, son Claude from Jacksonville and a daughter Gertie Butcher. I think that Gertie had a daughter by the name of Maxine. I would like to fill in some blanks. My mother was Blanche and she passed away in 1989. These half siblings were much older than my mom. Would like to find cousins. Claude Cline has a son by the name of Jerry. Would like to find him.

    3. Hi Theresa. Sorry to butt in but I was suprised to see you say you had a listing for the Green Pond Cem. I have a couple missing Daniels who are suposed to be in there. I wonder if you would be so kind as to lock for a Martin and Matilda Jane or Jane M. Daniels. I would really appreciate it. My John Phillip LEEDS was living in Pike County by 1860 with his wife. I believe the Samuel LEEDS listed in the 1850 Census who has a son John age 20 would be this John and his father. Some of the other sibling names and who I am trying to find info on are: Swain born approx 1844 Elijah born approx 1831 Marcus born approx 1842 Alonso born approx 1848 Living also with them was William Scull who somewho would be related to Samuel W. LEEDS' wife Mariah SCULL. It woudl seem that these LEEDS are very early settlers of Pike Co and wonder how to find out about early settlers? Any help or leads (no pun intended) would be appreciated.

    1. Re: [ILPIKE] Destruction of Cemeteries
    2. I see emails frequently (on genealogy websites) about problems with groups or individuals wanting to destroy old cemeteries. I am wondering if any of these ancestors graves could be protected if one could prove they were of native American Indian descent? I know the U.S. Federal Government is very protective of their gravesites. I have at least three G-G-Grandmothers of NA ancestry buried in Arkansas and I wouldn't hesitate to use that fact to protect their resting places. Most of us whose ancestors were colonists, pioneers and such to this country before there even was a United States of America really do have NA Indian blood ancestry. Worth a try anyway. Linda

I checked the pages that I copied for some of the towns in Pike Co. but did not find any newspapers that early in that area. Try checking newspapers 50 and 100 years later. Sometimes the papers will have 100 years ago today sort of thing. Most of the early newspapers on microfilm seem to be at the IL State Historical Library in Springfield.

    3. I missed the earlier posts on this, the news story. I'd like to see it if possible. The costs of this court battle to get an easement, and other costs, shouldn't have to be paid by those who were simply trying to enforce what the law already provides for, in a case like this - or else it seems to me like something is wrong. But perhaps that would require another court case. I'd like to get a copy of this easement, as I'm working on restoring an old cemetery where an easement is also needed, but in our case the landowner has already said he will give an easement to us. We just need to get it written up. Our county clerk mentioned he was keeping his eyes open to find an example, but I would like to see the easement for this one in Pike county. If not available otherwise, I'll check at the Pike county courthouse for the easement in Atlas township - anyone know which section? or the legal description? Robert

I am trying to determine the birth family of Lucinda's husband, Asa, who apparently died before 1830, possibly in Morgan County. The Carrington's were associated with the Matthews, Chenowith, McClain, Ayers and Wilson families, migrating with them from Kentucky.

The family moved to Howard/Randolph Co's, MO. An obit on a family member mentioned kin to John Brown the Abolitionist and Pres. James K. Polk (I'm thinking the Wilkins were possibly connected to the former.)
