    1. Re: [ILPIKE] Buchanan
    2. William S. Buchanan, farmer and stock raiser, sec 36, Spring Creek, was born March 8, 1833, in Calhoun county, IL, and is a son of the late Henry P. Buchanan; he was reared on a farm in a wild section of the country where deer, volves, etc. were numerous, and has killed many deer and other wild animals. There was no free school system here in those early days, and money being a scarce article in pioneer days, Mr. B's educational advantages were like those of other pioneer boys, very meager. He was married in 1855 to Miss Catharine McConnell, daughter of Robert McConnell, deceased, a pioneer of Pike county, MO. They had had 12 children, only 4 of whom are living - Robert H., Mary O., Thomas A., and James A. Besides a farmer, Mr. B is also a blacksmith and wagonmaker, in fact he can do almost any kind of work he turns his hand to. Elizabeth Smith wrote: > Could I have a look up from the History of Pike County--Buchanans listed on > p. 604. Thanks a bunch.

    3. I am new to this site but I was delighted to find it by accident. I am researching the following names in Pike county, Jeffers, Winterbotham, Pine, Noe, Belford, Elder. My grandmother was Ruby Ellen Belford Jeffers who died in 1993. She lived her entire life in Baylis and I remember visiting there many times. My father was Asahel Harold Jeffers, he died in 1993 also and is buried in the Baylis cemetery. I am stuck on the family of my gg grandmother, Charlotte Noe Jeffers. She was married to Isaac Jeffers , his second wife but I do not see their marriage listed in the Pike county records, just his other two wives, one before her and one after. She is buried in the Starkey cemetery but I don't remember ever visiting it in the past years. Isaac is buried in Baylis. The Winterbothams are also a big problem, I can't seem to find the line beyond Charles Winterbotham, my gg grandfather. The Jeffers were originally from Ohio and settled in Baylis when it was known as Pineville. If anyone has any "relatives" in the Savannah area I would love to swap research time. If anyone knew my grandmother Ruby or my father I would love to hear stories about their lives. Candace Jeffers Smith Savannah, Georgia

    1. [ILPIKE] Updates to Pike Co ILGenWeb
    2. I "think" I have all the updates made to the Pike Co ILGenWeb site. If you sent me an update and I missed it, please let me know and I will try to get to it yet today. I would also like to mention that I am aware of a problem with some Netscape browsers not loading the graphics on the site correctly - I am in contact with several people who are attempting to help me fix this so hopefully it will be corrected soon. Updated the following today: Fixed pictures on "Pike Co Families" page and added description of one photo. Corrected the "Archived Queries". Now shows all queries versus only showing July to December 1999. Updated the following surname pages: L, C, K, B, G, H, W, D, S & V Updated the "Pike County Books" site to reflect updates to Walt Waggoner's book. Added location to "Cemeteries" page for Blue River Cemetery. Any additions or corrections to the pages are always welcome. Have a great week, Barbara Freeman Pike Co ILGenWeb Coordinator http://www.rootsweb.com/~ilpike

    2. Hi Kathy, I just tried it and got thru fine. Looks like on the first page you need to click on "Register a new entry", the next page enter your email address and a password under "New Users" (the box on the right), the third page will then ask for your first and last name, the fourth page will ask for your email address and password again and then it will take you to the last page in which you can enter up to 5 surnames at a time. Hope this helps, Barbara In a message dated 1/2/00 6:50:52 AM, friendlm@trianglenet.net writes: << This is a neat site but I can't get it to take my e-mail address or password. What am I doing wrong?
