1. [ILPIKE] HIGDON
2. Greetings, I am new to the list but not to genealogy. My HIGDON family was living in Pike Co in the early 1850's John E. Higdon son of Samuel Higdon and Anne JESTER married in Pike Co. around 1853 best I can figure. On the 1880 for Griggsville it states that John is married to S. A. I would like to learn his wife's full name and their marriage date. If there is anyone out there working on this line or has access to marriage books I would love to hear from you. Sincerely, Freida Wells NM

1. [ILPIKE] The 23rd Psalm for Genealogists
2. I hope I'm not plagiarizing someone's work, but I thought this was too good to keep to myself. Sent to me by a "genie" friend. 23d Psalm for Genealogists Genealogy is my pastime, I shall not stray It maketh me to lie down and examine tombstones It leadeth me into still courthouses It restoreth my Ancestral Knowledge It leadeth me in the paths of census records and ships' passenger lists for my surnames' sake Yea, though I walk through the shadows of research libraries and microfilm readers I shall fear no discouragement, for a strong urge is within me The curiosity and motivation, they comforteth me It demandeth preparation of storage space for the acquisition of countless documents It anointest my head with burning midnight oil My family group sheets runneth over Surely, birth, marriage, and death dates shall follow me all the days of my life And I shall dwell in the house of a family history-seeker forever. --unknown--

1. [ILPIKE] Bad News - PIKE CO. HISTORICAL SOCIETY
2. This is the news I received from a cousin of mine in Pittsfield about the Pike County Historical Society When I asked - to try & get my book I ordered last May 1999 Well....the Historical Society has totally shut down as of Oct. 1, and will remain closed until May 1st. I finally reached Betty Lacy, and told her I was just checking on a friend's order. She said there was a pile of checks and orders they simply didn't get to before closing----and it was their policy not to cash checks before sending things out. Anyway, I asked if I could simply pick up the order, and she said no. There is a store in Pittsfield that is suppose to be selling books for them, though. I asked how many books were for sale, and was told maybe four or five. When asked about the combined atlas you were interested in, she thought they should have it. (I can check tomorrow.) Anyway, she thought she would try to get with the people who she was holding checks to see if they still wanted their order or to cancel. Said she was terribly busy. (It's to bad someone doesn't take over managing the Historical Society.) I never dreamed getting a book right here in town was so complicated <><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><> A LITTLE LAUGHTER A DAY KEEPS THE DOCTOR AWAY <><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><> Visit me at Glenda's Rootsweb page

2. Vanette, I don't see a connection just by what you sent I will look through some files though. My Clarks came from New York, most of them stayed in Mo except for James who came to Pike County about 1856. As far as the Millers my James Clark married Sarah Miller daughter of Martin Miller whose family has been in Pike County for several years. So there could be a connection but I would have to look that up as well. I will get back to you if I find anything, hope you will do the same. Tammy in Indiana

Sounds as if you and Angie Gross know more about my great grandmother Louisa Sydney Davis than I do! I know absolutely nothing about her (other than she married my great grandfather Elmer), her natural family or her "adpotive" family. You mentioned a Maggie and a Jesse. Can you give me any information about this "adoptive" family and are you sure this was family that took her in? I'd love to know more! Thanks...... Melody
