The Hobbs seem to have settled in Perry Township. There is a Hinson Hobbs, H.Hobbs Jr., D.Hobbs and Co., Mary Hobbs, M.Hobbs, H.Hobbs, Sections 33, 34, and 35 and also a Wm. T. Hobbs that I missed in section 34. It says that Hinson came in 1834 to Pike from Ky. and also Wm.T. The other ones I mentioned above were not in the index which is what I said before whoever did the index left out several people. Probably had to pay to be in it. If you have any idea what township John Jackson may have been in I will look there. I hesitate to reply because what I have is not clear data. I have a diary of someone in 1862 that frequently states the Neff name. "I was introduced to Johnston Neff today". "I saw Harry Neff". "Charles Neff started his way to Marion County IL". "Lizzie Neff took dinner with us". "I got a letter form Mr. Neff with $8.25 or part of their rent of place in Ohio". "I wrote a letter to Charles Neff of Salem, Marion County". "Went to Fair in Pittsfield with Charles Neff". The diary writer was in the north east section of New Salem Township. I hope this does not confuse you as it is not clear data. Sometimes a little info will go a long way. Good Luck. ----- Original Message ----- From: <CARRIKER6@aol.com> To: <ILPIKE-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Tuesday, January 25, 2000 3:54 PM Subject: [ILPIKE] Neff > When I first started my research I had ask about the name Neff and got a lot > of response, but at the time all I new was that My Grandmother was Sara Opal > Neff Brunaugh, I now no that her father was James Benjamin Neff and He was > Married to Ina Myrtle Brinker if any of these names are familiar please write > I have come to another dead end but they are all from Pike Ill are Pike MO. > Pat C > > > ==== ILPIKE Mailing List ==== > USGS Mapping Service > http://mapping.usgs.gov/www/gnis/gnisform.html > List Manager: Barbara Freeman at Saxbury@aol.com > >

Hi Barbara - I found a little one on private property near Nebo and also a large one near Nebo which is named Nebo AKA Hunter. How would I find out the address of the cemetery records keeper? Naomi
Pat, Thanks for the lookup, but the Hinson HOBBS line doesn't seem to be mine, at least, I've had no luck connecting them so far. The only clues I have on the location of John Jackson H. & family is that his father John Sr., mother Elizabeth, and sister Sarah (HOBBS) PHIGLEY/PHEGLEY are buried in Burbridge cemetery. Also John's brother James Hector HOBBS married Jane CLARK in Pike Co. in 1857 and both are buried in Crescent Heights Pleasant Hill cemetery (do I have that name exactly right?). Don't know whether this will help--my fingers are crossed. Vanette
Barbara you are a great source of information, and do such a good job with this site. I wanted to share my experience with you because It has never happened before, Last Monday during the freezing rain that you were having up in your end my sister and I went to riverview cemt. in Louisiana, MO. I had never been there but heard that My Great Grandparents Charlotte and Henry Brunaugh had been buried there. We stopped the car in what we thought to be the 2nd addition got out my sister turned right and I turned left and without stopping went right to the grave. I cant explain it but maybe these people don't want to be forgotten. Keep up the good work I don't write much but read all the mail every day I love it when someone gets a hit Pat C.

Pat, Thanks for your reply. Since the SSDI application doesn't list spouse, would anyone on the list have any ideas where I could get his name? He was probably born around 1900. I've looked but can't find him on the 1920 census since he and my great aunt weren't married yet. Maybe they're on the 1930 but that's still a few years away. He's not buried in the same cemetery as my aunt, and he died before she did as she is listed as a widow on her death cert. All I know is his last name. Aaaack! Any ideas would be most welcome! I would try looking on the 1920 census for the surname and seeing if you can find a male around the right age. If you don't know where he was from for sure, try checking the county where your aunt lived. My reasoning is that they had to meet, right? So they may have lived in the same county. Then you can try and find a marriage certificate with the "maybe" name to see if it is the right one, or look in some old phone books. But I would search the census, street by street. I have found families this way. Kathryne
