    2. Have you checked other counties in the state? I started out checking for Lockett in Brown county and ended up with Lockett in Pike cty. Also, in looking for Lockett, I have found two other branches, which are Beard and Whitehead or whited. This is fun. Something to do on a snowy day! But am having trouble getting myself off of geneology and onto TAX. ha ha Have a good time. Glenda

    3. The Neff line is probably the most extensively researched non-Mayflower/royalty genealogy there is. There's even a Neff Numbering System. My wife is descended from NeffNumber "B31". 3. I have sent for and recieved two SSI applications. Here is what mine show: name, address and work place of applicant. They show parents names but not spouse name. They also show place of birth. One thing I liked about the forms, I now have a signature of the person I was looking for. I think it was worth sending for. Good luck in your search. La Velle

    3. Hello; When I checked probate estate papers at court house in Pittsfield, IL., there is a file 530 & 560, both for a Elijah HUMPHERY. one file had as a wife , Karen Happuck. as I recall are very similar. As I recall, one Elijah Humphery died 1844, one maybe 1847. I wish I had made copies of these files, but I did not. I think the census taker miss spelled HUMPHRY / HUMPHERY and put UMPHRY. I had not thought of this spelling, for my Happy Card, married Elijah Humphery. Now I can look at 1850 census for Happy Umphry, as she is not listed as Humphery. Hope this helps some one. 1. [ILPIKE] Atlas, Pittsfield -- Yikes!
    2. Lester M Powers
    3. I am new on this list and looking for information from Atlas and maybe Pittsfield in Pike County. Normally I lurk longer before posting, to get a social sense of a list, but I got bad news today at the library. I like to pre-survey the literature before raiding the local LDS FHC (which is hardly ever open) so I can get organized in advance and save time. At the regular library I looked up Pike County (and Atlas) in their "Genealogical & Local History Books In Print." YIKES!!!!! THERE AREN'T ANY!!!!!!! The whole county is omitted altogether! Not one lousy book is listed. Not even a picture book. So, now what? I am looking for Benjamin Powers who came to Pike Co. in 1835 and left for Oregon in 1852. There was one death there, a child's, in 1835, and four births, in Atlas and Pittsfield. No marriages. The births are known and peachy. I am looking for what Benjamin Powers did for a living at Atlas and Pittsfield (probably some combination of cabinet maker, miller, and farmer), and for the location of his property. I especially want to know if he picked up his cabinetmaking skills at Pike Co., or if he brought that with him. So, with no books existing in the books in print book, well, now what?
