I quickly consulted my photography book that says that ambrotype was patented in 1854 by James Ambrose and became very popular after that. Like the degarrotype, each image was unique - no negative. The degerrotype was pre - ambrotype. Thanks Tom, I do use Seattle Film Works, but it would be a good idea to get some of my old pictures on disks. I have lots photo from Pike County people - Scott Co, too ( where Winchester is , I think that's Scott) I bet this would be expensive. My grandmother saved everything , so I have boxes and albums full of old pictures, many many tintypes , and even some ambrotypes.(the ones on glass) Annette Tom wrote: > > Annette Miner wrote: > > > > I've never scanned and sent a picture before but I will be working on > > it. Wonderful idea
Annette I scan my pictures and put them in a file, and then put them on disks. It works real good and then you can delete them and scan some more. If you do them as JPG you can get several on one disk. I have a Miner/Minor that go back to CONN. Sharon D.

I know the Mississippi course would migrate back and forth across the river plain over time. Did the Mississippi abutt against the eastern bluffs back then? They are against the western bluffs today (With Louisiana MO sitting above the western bluffs. A similar example is one of the old Illinois Capitals - Kaskaskia I think. It's actually now to the west of the Mississippi on a tiny spit of Illinois on the western bank. Back when it was founded the river ran around it to it's west but the river was an "oxbow" and the neck got breached which left the western side dry and rerouting the river to the east of the city.

Speakin of pictures, I have a picture of a reunion of Civil War soldiers taken in about 1890. I think it is Illinois 2nd Co. K. Twelve men in the picture are: Anthony Dell, James Graves, Josephus Brown, Watson Goodrich, George Webster, Dick Wade, Wm. Handel, John LB Goings, John Eagle, James Collins, George Beckholdt and Marian Heavener. These were all Pike county residents. The picture shows these men from the waist up. If anyone is intereted, maybe it could be included in the Pike Co site. Annette
