The date given is the year the head became a resident of the county. The asterisk means children not at home. O180a means owns 180 acres. T180a means tenant on 180 acres. R180a means rents, etc. I have a copy of the 1919 edition if anyone is interested. Don L. Don, Seen your reply, reference the Prairie Farmer's Directory. If it is not an inconvienence and you have time, I would appreciate any reference to LEGGETT's that might be in the Directory. Thanks, G. Norm LEGGETT

I would like to make a request to see if there might be some kind person on the list who lives near the Calhoun Cemetery to check on my gggrandparents death dates. They are: John Tucker who died abt.1859 or 60 and his wife Amy Ann Akin or Aiken Tucker Bond. She may have remarried a John Bond after the death of John Tucker. She died before 1880. Or if anyone knows of a listing of interments on the internet that I could search. I was able to find the interment date on a ggrandmother in Schuyler Co. this way. Or any other helps would be appreciated. Thank you, Ranae

Hi List, Does anyone have a Rev. John DAVIS who migrated to Illinois from Tennessee and eventually ended up in Greene CO. MO. in the late 1800s? Don't know his wife's name unfortunately but he did have a daughter named Nancy Ellen DAVIS who was born 1861-1863 in IL. All I know about John is that he was an itinerant Baptist or Methodist preacher and farmer. Other children might have been Lisa (Louisa?? married ______Storey/Story/Steury), Julia (Julie), and Robert (poss. named Robert C. Smith). Thanks, Nancy Helvey

Don, I'd like info on HOBBS, McGUIRE, and PHIGLEY or PHEGLEY if they're listed. Thanks, Vanette
Is anyone on the list familiar with the Prairie Farmer's Reliable Directory? I have an abstract from this source for 1917 - Pike Co. Were there Directories for other years? In this abstract are several Battershell families. It gives the name of the head of household, the wife's 1st and maiden name, the children's names and name of town where they resided in Pike Co. At the end of each listing is a date in parenthesis which I am assuming is the birthdate of the head of the household. I have also noticed that there are asterisks ahead of some of the children's names. Would anyone know what these designate??? Could it mean they were children from a previous wife??? Just curious about this reference source and would like to know if there are other directories for other years. Thanx - Diane

Enjoyed the Summer Hill news down here in OK. I wish that it had said where in the world is Summer Hill? Anyone who wants OK geneology let me know and I will try to help you. Many of my LOCKETT AND BEARD came from Brown Cty, IL to OK in the Land Run of 1889. My LOCKETTS associated with the LINCOLN family and I remember many tales of Lockett helping LINCOLN when he was between jobs barging goods down the ILLINOIS river. Also, My WHITEHEAD ,BEARD and RASAR family left Tennessee on the Oregon trail and went to CA, OR and WA. As far as that goes, Many left OK to go to CA in the Dust Bowl days. My CLIFTON family went from OK to CA. I have been surprised by how many people traveled long distances to find a better life. The Oregon trail story was almost as sad as the Trail of Tears from TN to OK for the native americans. I think that I would have just stayed at home! Boy, I'm full of it today. Let me know if I can help you in OK Glenda Lockett Ramsey (Gramsey406@ aol.com)

I got my brother-in-law's Summer Hill News and it contained a referecne to some Shinns which I believe someone was researching: The Summer Hill News by R. M. Blacketer ©1999 Last week I told you that Marjorie Blacketer entered Blessing Hospital in Quincy for replacement surgery on her shoulder rotator cup on Tuesday morning, January 25. Well, things went so well with the surgery that she was home from the hospital by weekend! Marjorie says that she is too stubborn to listen to the negatives people say and is determined to get well and back to her quilting as soon as possible. Tereasa Shinn, Gary Shinn's wife, is the visiting nurse who has been coming in to take care of Marjorie and slow her down a bit as need be. Marjorie is supposed to have a therapist start visits soon. The arm is doing so well she can move it some already. The only real problem she has had is that she turned out to be allergic to the antibiotic she was taking. Over all Marjorie is very pleased with her arm and is glad she decided to go ahead with the surgery. Daniel Blacketer, who drives for J. B. Hunt, ran into a bit of fowl weather down in Texas last weekend. The snow and ice brought traffic to a mere crawl out on the major highways. He found himself virtually parked along with a highway full of other cars and trucks. HAPPY BIRTHDAY to my great-nephew Justin Blacketer who will be eight years old on Monday, February 7. He is growing up fast. The Calvary Gospel Academy will be serving a steak dinner for Valentine's Day at the Academy on Saturday evening February 12. There will be a charge of $5 per person. To make reservations for this special banquet please contact Mrs. Eva Sheppard at 217-285-6783n or Mrs. Tereasa Van Fleet at 573-754-4107. Reservations must be in by February 7 to reserve your table. Attire is semi-formal for this occasion. Francis Sheppard is spending a few days visiting with his daughter Carmel Rich and her husband Enoch, and enjoying the grandchildren down in Kentucky this week.
