Pike Co Families Photos Manager I would like to find someone who is willing to head up this project. We have a good start on a photo collection and I also have a few more in my inbox to be added. To manage this project you need to be familiar with basic HTML (or a willingness to learn), know how to upload (if on AOL I can help with this) and have a photo editor program such as Adobe, etc. If anyone is interested in managing this project or if there is another project related to Pike Co you would be interested in managing, please contact me. I would also like to find someone who is willing to write an article on the history of the Pike Co courthouse - from it locations over the years to what research items that can be found there today. If interested, please contact me. Have a wonderful week, Barbara Freeman Pike Co ILGenWeb County Coordinator

The Cemetery Resident Listing Project is now up and running! Glenda Subyak at GSubyak@aol.com is the manager for this project and is responsible for collecting and uploading the cemetery resident information. This project is part of the Cemetery page at: http://www.rootsweb.com/~ilpike/cemeteries.html At this time there is a partial listing for one cemetery. If we all gather up our information and submit it to Glenda via the online form we can get this project off to a good start! I would also like to encourage everyone to assist in this project by jotting down a few markers around your family members plots each time you visit a Pike Co cemetery and submit them for inclusion on the pages. It will only take a few extra minutes of your time and will be a valuable asset to the Pike Co pages. Please - those that have the cemetery books published by the Pike Co Historical Society - we can NOT ethically or legally transcribe information directly from these books to be placed on the web site. The information that is posted must be from your own personal notes. Any questions, feel free to contact Glenda at GSubyak@aol.com or Barbara at Saxbury@aol.com Have a wonderful week, Barbara Freeman Pike Co ILGenWeb County Coordinator

Hello, I am new to the list and this is my first post. My gr grandmother was Sarah MAISE/MAYS. (The correct spelling is MAISE, but when Sarah remarried Charles LEONARD, it was spelled MAYS.) She married him in 1876 in Morgan Co., IN, but they moved to Illinois, bringing his children from a former marriage, and her son, Andrew Harrison MAISE. The story is, the family lived in a log cabin between Hull, IL, and Hannibal, MO, and that Sarah died in the flood (don't know if she drowned or got sick) and her body was taken out in a boat. Was Hannibal the nearest town where her body would be taken, and if so, where would she be buried or how can I get her death record? My question is..... was there a big flood in this area around 1878? Or when was there a flood in this area around this time? Someone had written her death date as 1888, but that can't be right because Charles Leonard was already remarried and living with a new wife in 1880 census. You can see my problem....both of my grandfather's birth parents died between censuses. So far I have have been unable to find James MAISE's death record or their marriage record in Indiana. Any help or advice would be appreciated. Thanks! She said she was with her girlfriend Pauline Hyde (sp?). Is anyone familiar with this name Hyde? Does anyone know if he made train trip through Pike County. Mom would have turned 16 in 1933. I believe that was the year he was elected president. Was he president at the time or campaigning on this train trip?
