    3. Hi, I think if you would call a Masonic Lodge, they could give you the answers. Our Masonic Lodge here has pictures way back into the late 1880's - some I had never seen of my relation. By the way, you are a descendant not an ancestor of a Mason. 2. If your ancestors were buried in Cresent Heights and Burbridge, chances are they belonged to to the masonic lodge in Pleasant Hill. They had a lodge there as late as a couple of years ago. The State organization can verify the lodge they belonged too. Greg Sippel Overland Park, Kansas

    3. I was told by my father that my grandfather, Andrew MAISE, was a Mason. He lived in Hull, IL most of his life. My question is.... was there a Masonic Lodge in Hull or Hannibal, MO and how can I get records of their membership? I'm not sure what information is needed to join the Masons, but wouldn't a person need proof that they were an ancestor of a Mason? I don't know how my grandfather could have done this because he was orphaned very young. Thanks for any information, Lonna in Texas

    2. I sent for records of a Masonic Lodge member. I called the local lodge, who gave me the address of the State Headquarters. They sent me copies of the history of the lodge and records when my ancestor's dues were paid and the offices he held etc.

    1. [ILPIKE] Marriage look-up
    2. Andy or Annie Utick
    3. I've looked on my Broderbund CD#2 and the on-line Pike Co. site for this marriage, but to no avail. Have tried to look this up on line for Pike Co., MO, but couldn't find the site. Anyway, the bride was MARGARET MARIA BRISCOE, who went by the name, "Maria" her whole life; and the groom was W. YORK. I'd like to know his full name and the date of their marriage. It probably occurred around 1882, since Maria was b. in 1862 (in Pike Co., IL). She died 12/28/1930, also in Pike Co., IL. Many thanks in advance for any help. A. Utick

    3. Hi Glenda, Thanks for responding. Since you have the Atlas would you mind checking Spring Creek Township to see who is shown in section one. That way I will know for sure which atlas my photocopies came from. Actually I have two photocopies of Spring Creek Township, from two different years. They may well have come from the same "combined" atlas.. Does your combined atlas have two different maps of Spring Creek Township - one from 1872 and one from 1912? 2. It takes me 1 hour from Springfield to East Alton and another hour from East Alton to Pearl, I use I-72 to 55 then I go through Alton and get on the Great River Road, it takes me a total of 6 & 1/2 hours from Porter county IN. 72 cuts off about 20 minutes for me. Tammy

    3. I got in on this late so I don't know what area you are talking about. The river bottoms are always at risk for floods. 93 was the worst I have ever seen. It was awful. The people in NC can tell you what it feels like. I had a friend whose whole family lost their farms. 4 brothers, a mother and father all 5 farms wiped out. They are back on higher ground. THe government requires the houses to be built on higher ground now but I can tell you that not all of them are. Hopefully this won't happen again but there is no gurantee. It was a weird year it rained almost everyday from here to somewhere way up above Iowa and didn't let up so the ground was already saturated and had nowhere to go. So it was a combination of weather things that caused that one. 3. Hah! I may have accidentally convinced my dad to buy a retirement house in Pike County. I happen to be telling him how cheap land is in parts - about $500 (that's five HUNdred) per acre, and that my brother-in-law bought a four-bedroom farmhouse with a couple acres in Summer Hill for $28,000. You can still buy shotgun houses in Rockport for $10,000. Also, since they put the superhighway through that now passes north of Pittsfield on it's way to Hannibal, MO, land values there are going to explode as people move out from Springfield which is about 50 miles from Pittsfield but is now a straight shot down an Interstate. After all this discussion, he's going to drive over there to look into it. (He lives in Bloomington-Normal).

    3. I have the spelling Medaris. The diary of ca1860 shows Charles, John, R. and L.. One was a neighbor who had a grinding stone. The one Medaris lived next to McKinney in section 2 of New Salem Township of Pike County. In the McKinney tree there is Anna Leta Medaris b-Kansas m-Elmer Weaver 1911. There is an Oliver Medaris m-Hanna McKinney 1880 and also a Stella m- a Husman. I recall a previous message you had about Orrs and Taylors. I need to be refreshed as the Orrs are in two of my trees and the Taylors are still a mystery. Does this make any sense? ----- Original Message ----- From: <Vanetteh@aol.com> To: <ILPIKE-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Sunday, February 13, 2000 3:00 PM Subject: [ILPIKE] MEDEARIS surname > I saw the name MEDEARIS on a list recently but can't rememember which one. > Since this is the one I've been on the longest and consider "home", I thought > I'd post here. 1. Re: [ILPIKE] MEDEARIS surname
    2. Hi, Melvin, Yes, you made perfect sense. The MEDARIS/MEDEARIS's I have are more recent than yours, but I'll send them at the end. The only possibility is the R--one of mine is Roy. I only have them because they married into my main line, HOBBS. I thought sure I'd seen the name spelled with the second 'e' someplace, but who knows? I have only two ORRs, Alexander and John. Alexander married a RUSSELL and John married a HOBBS, but they would have been in either MD, NC, or VA--the early 1800s. My few TAYLORs range from about 1825 to 1890 and married into HOBBS and YEARY families, also in VA, probably Lee County. Vanette Here are the MEDEARIS people: hope it fits somewhere. VIOLET MAE7 HOBBS (JOHN HEZEKIAH6, RAY5, GREENBERRY4, EZEKIEL3, VINCENT2, NATHANIEL BARRYE1) was born February 29, 1912 in On farm South of Toronto, Woodson County, Kansas. She married ROY EUGENE MEDEARIS April 07, 1928 in Yates Center, Woodson County, Kansas. Children of VIOLET HOBBS and ROY MEDEARIS are: i. BETTY IRENE8 MEDEARIS, b. January 26, 1929, Toronto, Woodson County, Kansas. ii. ANTHONY LEE MEDEARIS, b. November 13, 1932, Woodburn, Yamhill County, Oregon. iii. TWILA FERN MEDEARIS, b. November 08, 1934.
