    1. [ILPIKE] McAllister Newsletter
    2. Melvin McAllister
    3. I am preparing a one time McAllister and Dolbow newsletter for Pike County, JoDaviess County and New Jersey researchers. I have been contacted by a number of people and I have contacted many people. I have researched Pike County McAllister's to the point I have some data on almost any McAllister. I have provided this data to several researchers. I have issued one newsletter and have been encouraged to issue another with more extensive information. I have researched or have been given data on the McAllister's of New Salem Twp. Nancy McAllister (wife of William McKinney) came to Pike County in 1839. Her brother, William came in 1850. There are other McAllister families in Pike that apparently have not been researched. The main one is the Yarrow and brother John who came to Pike from New Jersey in 1839. There are many McAllister's of these two still in Pike County (An oddity I find is that of all the McAllister's I talked to in Pike County, none seemed interested in the family tree. There is one not in the county that has recently started a research.). There is a connection with the McAllister's of Jo Daviess County that is being researched. There is also McAllister/Dolbow connections not yet fully determined. There were early McAllisters in Pike besides Yarrow and John. Mary A McAllister married Clement Lippencott (both from NJ) and in 1850 there was an Isaac Dolbow living with Clement. The 1840 census has a James McAllister as well as Yarrow and John. Who was James? David S. McAllister from NJ married Eliza McWorthy in 1844. Is anyone researching the Lippincott and McWorthy names. Are there McAllister/Dolbow (and associated families) researchers that I have not been in contact with and would like to share information.

    3. Holly, What an outstanding job on the index!!!! I got the 2 books on interlibrary loan, but had to leave Alaska on an unexpected trip the day after their arrival. I've only had a few days to review them (I must return them to the library tomorrow or the next day), and made several good notes, but was afraid I was missing some of the names I wanted to check out. Thanks to you, I'll now be able to go directly to the names I need. In Pike County (especially in the Perry area), I'm researching: Linn/Lynn, French, Schaffnit, Ham, Reed, Gray, and related families. Thanks again for your help! Regards from beautiful Alaska, Bob Lynn

    3. Dear Vanette, I am not researching the Read family. My grandmother left a lot of notes on scraps of paper and book margins etc. and one of the references was to an Asahel Read. My father was named Asahel and because that is an unusual name I was curious about the man. I think there is a connection between his mother and my Jeffers or Pine line but I would have to check it out. My great grandmother who lived in Baylis had a strange hobby...she kept a journal of deaths and marriages from the area. I have the journal but haven't indexed it yet. I will look up the name you mentioned and post an answer if I find out anything about them. I also have a booklet written about the Jeffers family called Biography of the Jeffers Family. It has quite a few names from Pike county and I will look there too. Give me a few days and I will get back to you.
