Hoping that someone on this list is researching the SPARROW or MEDLOCK surname. Please contact me if you are. I have enjoyed this list--lots of great people and great info--but have not found a connection to my family (from Barry) and since there is a limit to how many 'lists' I have time to read--will be unsubbing after this last effort. Thanks to you all. Jackie Moore Carter jmcarter@centurytel.net
Mari, I think the name can be spelled Graybill also. I have a hunch the original is probably Grabael, likely German, that was changed over time to Grabeel, Grabill, Graybill, and heaven knows what else. Maybe even Grable? I only have four GRABEELs--my side of the family. Jacob, his daughters Lucinda and Martha, and a stray Nancy. I'd bet Nancy is related to the rest but don't know in what way. They're all between 1822 and about 1900 in Lee County, VA. The closest I can come to your Flossie Hamilton (my husband's side) is Florence Rosettie HAMILTON b. 1867 in KS, d. 1937 in CA. Got her off a website, don't know how reliable it is. I wrote the submitter, but never got a reply. Maybe I should try again in case the system ate my email. If you're grasping at straws, I think I'm trying to find needles in haystacks! Oh, well, sometimes it works! Vanette Hobbs Hamilton

Hi, John Wesley (b. 1803) and Nancy A. (Shields) (b. 1811) Thompson were living in Barry, Pike County, IL in the 1880 census. John d. aft 1887 and Nancy in 1890. I have been unable to find where they are buried or when they died exactly. Does anyone have cemetery records they can check for this couple? Thanks for your help. Shaunee Power P. S. Are there a lot of cemeteries in Barry?
Hi Pat, I ordered the book on Friday and received it the following Tuesday - very quick service! The contact information for the book is on the Pike Co site at: http://www.rootsweb.com/~ilpike/books.html Have a great day, Barbara Freeman
Did any one order the Book that Barbara Freeman told us about, I was just wondering how long it might take to get it. If any one has that e-mail address please send it to me so I can check on it. Thanks PatC.

At the website for the BLM I found a land patent record from 1834 for Joseph Hubbard for Pike County, IL. This was the record kept in Washington, D.C., but the sale was filed in the District Land Office in Edwardsville. I also know that by 1836 a Land Office was in operation in Quincy which covered Pike County. I would like to know where the original records are now. 1. Was the Edwardsville office closed at some point, and were the records kept in Edwardsville? If so, where? 2. If the records were moved, are they at Quincy, Springfield, or somewhere else? 3. If this is a common question, I apologize. Is there an IL Genealogy FAQ? Thanks in advance. Richard Hubbard, St. Louis, Missouri rhubbard@mvp.net ---- TAX REFORM: Increased taxes. I am scanning all the pictures I received from my grandfather (Ben Saxbury of Kinderhook) this past weekend. At this time I only have about a fourth of them up but for those that wish to take a look they can be found at: http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~saxbury/photos/index.html Here are some of the surnames found in the pictures so far. Saxbury, Buttram, Pulliam, Brown, Stewart, Pickett, Swan, Roland, Denkler, Barnett, Seba, Blacketter, Christianson, Ripple, Dinning, Schueff, Orille, Nighswonger, Sallees, Grist, Billings, Christianer, Howard & Colvin I do have several hundred more to scan and upload and I am sure a few more surnames will be added to this list. Most, but not all, are from the Pike Co area. There are also quite a few unidentified individuals - if you can identify any of them ~Please~ let me know! Have a great evening, Barbara Freeman Pike Co ILGenWeb County Coordinator

I don't know about them but Barb Gay may know someone jimgay@adams.net What you were saying about interest is what I have found also in the Ruble line. One or two people are interested if I give them all the information but very few are willing to help and look to see what they have in their records. I guess the bug has not hit everyone like it has us.
