Does anyone have access to the national archives or a regional center for them? I have been reading about the 1890 cenus and it says that some of Il. was saved and is on microfilm number M407 and M496. It is just part but who knows maybe one of us might get lucky. I will forward the site for the information. Pat
I would like to know if someone could tell me the location of the Holford Family Cemetery in Hardin Twp. I am unfamiliar with that one. I will be visiting in Pike County in June and would like to visit that cemetery. Thank you. Judy in Tulsa.
I found in a short time some Ruble's over there. They have Scott co. information listed also. These counties are very close to Pike so its worth a look for missing relatives. The other family members were Staten Browns wife Penny Ruby and their children: Cassius, Jesse, John Quincy, Henry & Henryetta (twins)? and John Allen. There was a Sandy Brown living quite close to Staten Brown & I believe that Sandy was one of Staten Browns children from a previous marriage to Dicy Coffield. Sandy married Sarah Ann Morrgan during the late 1840's in Madison, Jefferson Cnty., Indiana. They had the following children: William, Mary, Robert, Samuel and Sandy. I have information on my ggrandfather William Wesley Brown and his wife Thankful Delight Smith who were living in Kinderhook,Pike Cnty., Illinois in 1860. I can not find a trace of Staten and Sandy Browns families after 1860 nor can I find a trace of Staten Brown prior to 1830 when he was living in Halifax Cnty., North Carolina. Where did this family go after 1860? Any help will be appreciated & I will share with others. Thank you. Sandy

Posted on: Pike Co. Il Queries Board URL: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Il/Pike?read=211 Surname: Smith, Metcalf, Hawkins, Fox, Peters, Wright ------------------------- Sharon, from the surnames you have listed you must be descended from David Liggett and his wife Jane (Jennie); from Nathaniel Metcalf from NH and his son Chauncy Alfred Metcalf and Chauncy's wife Sarah McMasters Liggett Metcalf (born 09 Mar 1818 in Ohio.) These are the ancestors of Rosella Metcalf, born 14 Jan 1843 near Barry, Pike Co, IL. Rosella's sister Mary Jane (Jennie) Metcalf, born 21 Mar 1847 in Barry twp, Pike Co, IL married Bela Smith Wright, 15 Sep 1878 at Barry. I assume you are descended from Bela and Jennie Wright through their son George Arthur Wright and his wife Effie M Hulse. This family is also mine. Rosella Metcalf married Albert Smith, son of George and Ruth Hawkins Smith, 24 Jun 1863. This Smith family was from near Utica, NY. Both George and Ruth Smith died there in 1841. Albert Smith and at least one sister, Mary E Smith and her husband James Fox came to Pike Co, IL and lived in Barry twp, north of the town of Barry by the late 1850's. Jim (1827-1878) and Mary Smith Fox (1831-1876) and a son Fred G Fox (died 1870 age 11 yrs)are buried in the Old Barry Cemetery. I am uncertain just when Albert Smith died; Rosella moved with several of her children to near Mena, Polk Co, AR at the turn of the century; she died there 31 Jul 1924 and is buried at Witherspoon Cem, at Vandervoort, AR. Albert and Rosella Metcalf Smith had four sons and two daughters all born north of Barry in Pike County, IL: George Eugene (Gene) born 14 Apr 1864; Frederick Alfred (Fred) born 06 May 1865, died 06 Dec 1944 in Polk Co, AR; Edgar Albert born 29 Dec 1866 and died 08 Mar 1910 at Black Springs, AR; Frank B born 24 Feb 1869, married Jennie Hallau of Barry in New Haven, CN in 1899, died 05 Jul 1948, buried Glenside, PA; Sarah Estella (Stella) born 08 Feb 1871, never married, died 30 May 1963 in Polk Co, AR; Mary Louella (Ella) born 17 Dec 1872, married Marion Hays of Barry, 28 Dec 1892 and died in Davenport, IA 17 Mar 1963. George Eugene Smith married Lillie Ann Triplett 18 Feb 1902, Barry, IL. They lived at Vandervoort, AR, Page, OK and Clarksville AK and later in Quincy, IL. They adopted my father, William Thomas Owens, son of Horton Monroe and Lucy O'Connor Owens. Gene and Lillie both died March 1953 in Quincy, IL. Most of my information came from Aunt Ella Hays, Aunt Stella Smith and several Wrights who lived in Barry. I would like to correspond with anyone related to these families.

Il Queries Board URL: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Il/Pike?read=209 Surname: PETERSON, SHAHAN ------------------------- 1860 Census, Pike Co, IL, New Salem Twp. p440 contains: Crayton SHAHAN, 21 b IL; Emma SHAHAN, 47 b KY; Ruth PETERSON, 80 b VA. [Not in Pike 1850 or 1870 Census.] Ruth is widow of William PETERSON, Sr. [last found in 1813 Adams Co, OH.] Emma SHAHAN is probably daughter-in-law of Ruth from her first marriage to John SHAHAN in 1798 Mason Co, KY. Crayton is probably Ruth's grandson. Given name of Emma's spouse is unknown. [Ruth's son, Benjamin Abbott PETERSON, lived in Pike Co, IL 1840 until his death in 1900] Where were the other PETERSON and SHAHAN family members between 1813 and 1860; where did they go after Pike Co, IL?

Il Queries Board URL: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Il/Pike?read=202 Surname: COUGHENOUR, BARNEY ------------------------- I am looking for any information on the Coughenour line. My gg grandfather was John Coughenour (b. 1870 in Pike County). He married Nellie Barney there. I have no info on he or his parents, William and Mary Jane Coughenour, except that the original Coughenour family came from Germany to Pennsylvania, then split, with some going to Illinois, and others to Gallia County, Ohio. Can anyone help with additional information? Thanks, Amy Frick
