Currently only the index is online. I do not know anyone who has the actual book however it can be ordered on microfilm thru interlibrary loan. The complete name of the book to order is 'Past and Present of Pike County, Illinois by Capt. M. D. Massie'. This particular microfilm includes 5 books. Il Queries Board URL: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Il/Pike?read=242 Surname: Brown, Smith, Ruby, Cox ------------------------- The 1860 U.S. Census shows my gggrandfather Staten Brown & his family living in Hadley, Barry P.O., Pike Cnty., Illinois. The other family members were Staten Browns wife Penny Ruby and their children: Cassius, Jesse, John Quincy, Henry & Henryetta (twins)? and John Allen. There was a Sandy Brown living quite close to Staten Brown & I believe that Sandy was one of Staten Browns children from a previous marriage to Dicy Coffield. Sandy married Sarah Ann Morrgan during the late 1840's in Madison, Jefferson Cnty., Indiana. They had the following children: William, Mary, Robert, Samuel and Sandy. I have information on my ggrandfather William Wesley Brown and his wife Thankful Delight Smith who were living in Kinderhook,Pike Cnty., Illinois in 1860. I can not find a trace of Staten and Sandy Browns families after 1860 nor can I find a trace of Staten Brown prior to 1830 when he was living in Halifax Cnty., North Carolina. Where did this family go after 1860? Any help will be appreciated & I will share with others. Thank you. Sandy

There is a little book (more like a booklet) that was written around 1900 about the Jeffers of Pike and surrounding counties. The book is difficult to follow because the author jumps from generation to generation without finishing a sibling group. It has to be studied to make sure you have the right names for everyone. I have made an index for this booklet which may help some people. The names included are... Anthony, Auten,Bailey,Banta,Barrett,BernardBirdsell, Boggs, Brewer. Brown, Bryant,Buskirk, Cadwell, Campbell, Carnes, Carter, Coffey,Cole, Crouch, Daniels, Davidson, Davis, Dietz, Donly, Dorsey, Echard, English,Fancher, Finley, Foster, Frame, Fuller, Fye, Gayer, George, Goodloe, Graham, Hair, Hall, Havenor, Hawkins, Hawthorne, Hensley, Hill, Hooper, Jeffers,Johnson, Kirgan, Mansel, McAlear, McIntire, McKinney, McLaughlin, Medaris, Mellon, Molden, Monday, Moon, Newman, Newton, Noe, Orr, Parks, Peacock, Peck, Pelts, Pickering, Pine, Potter, Propst,Ramsey, Ransom, Reese, Rhodes,Riecker, Roberts, Rollins, Rook, Scott, Seaborn, Slade, Smith,Smithson, Starks, Streeter, Tedrow, Tibbitts, Toll, Veach, Walker, Wassell,West, Wicker, Will, Wilson, Winterbotham, Wiseman, Woods, Woodward, Young There isn't a lot of information on a lot of these names but it may give a clue here and there. Hi List, I'm sorry I missed the deadline for Roll Call. I'm searching for info on the BLAKE family: Bessie Lee Blake, my gggrandmother was born 5/2/1874 in Barry Illinois. Her father was Albert Blake, born about 1817 in Maine. His wife was Elizabeth MOORE, I think, who was born in Missouri about 1852. They had another son, Edwin Blake, born about 1879 in Barry, Illinois. Albert Blake apparently had one or two other wives: One may have been Permilia, born about 1820 in Kentucky. Their children were: Mary, born about 1841 John, born about 1846 Joel, born about 1848 and Martha, born about 1849 All born in Barry, Illinois Other children (mother unknown) include: Ephram, 1854 Alexander, 1857 Luella, 1859 Thomas, 1862 and Charles, 1866 Most of this info came from the 1850 and 1880 Barry Township Census If anyone has more info, I'd like to hear from you. I am still searching for information about this family that was listed in the 1850 Pike County census: John Morton age 21, farmer, born in Illinois Rebecca Morton, age 20, born in Illinois Emily J. Morton, age 2/12, born in Illinois I believe John died a year or two after this census and that possibly Rebecca remarried. I found Emily Jane Morton married to Hugh Gauntt of Spring Creek, Pike County Mar 22, 1865. I am trying to find out what happened to Rebecca.
