    3. I need help with this one. I have two different daughters of Adam Decker married to Samuel McKay. ILL marriage web site has Josephine married to him 3/6/1889 (I am assuming she is Harry's mother), then I have Cora married to him 6/1/1891. If Josephine is Harry's mother it would seem she died Oct 25, 1889, that would be 9 days after his birth. Can anyone tell me if this is correct? Barry Adage, Barry, Pike Co. IL, Friday, August 29, 1890: "Harry, son of S. McKay and grandson of A. Decker, was born Oct. 16, 1889, and died Aug. 20, 1890, aged 10 months and 4 days. He was left motherless when nine days old, but was cared for by the father and grandparents, who with other relatives mourn his sudden death." per Gerri's post

Surnames: Martin, Brooks, Powers, Hinch, Campbell, Bower, Wise, Willhide Classification: Obituary Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/kg.2ADI/1597 Message Board Post: Barry Adage, Barry, Pike Co. IL, Wednesday, Nov. 1, 1911: "Miss Mary Jane Brooks, oldest child of James and Elizabeth Brooks, was born in Pennsylvania March 17, 1839, and departed this life at her late home, four miles northwest of this city, October 20, 1911, aged 72 years, 7 months and three days. She moved with her parents to Ohio when but a small child, where she lived until 1866, when she came with her husband to Illinois. She was united in marriage with Joel C. Martin March 23, 1857, and to this union were born fifteen children, and all have preceded her in death but five, four daughters and one son. They are Mrs. Mary Powers, of Bluffs, Ill.; Mrs. Anna Hinch, of Barry; Mrs. Tena Campbell, of Baylis; Mrs. Elizabeth Bower, of Barry, and William, of St. Louis, Mo. Beside the husband and children, she leaves thirty-six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; also five brothers and two sisters - Dave, Hugh and George Brooks, of Belpre, Ohio; James and Albert, of Kinderhook, Ill.; Mrs. Nannie Wise and Mrs. Minerva Willhide, of Virginia. Mrs. Martin was all that the word wife and mother expresses - loving, kind-hearted, merciful, and looking carefully after her household and the welfare of her husband and children. Rearing a large family and seeing the larger part of it precede her to the other shore brought many disappointments and heartaches. She had been in failing health for some time, but her family had hopes of her recovery; it was not to be so, for she passed quietly to her rest after a long life of toil and care in the rearing of her large family. Funeral services were conducted from the family home on Monday, October 23, at 2 p.m., Rev. W.M. Halley officiating, and the remains were carried to the Park Lawn cemetery in this city for burial, followed by a large number of friends and relatives of the deceased, who sincerely mourn with the family in this their sad bereavement."

He came to Quincy in 1836, and purchased the farm in Beverly in 184(8?). He has lived there ever since. There was much sorrow in this city last Sunday when it was learned that "Uncle Jake" Funk had died at his home in Beverly township. He was a frequent visitor here and all knew and respected him. He was 86 years, 6 months and 6 days old. Mr. Funk took delight in telling of early times in this vicinity, where he had lived sixty-five years, and as he was an earnest and interesting talker, he always had attentive listeners. Mr. Funk was popularly known in this neighborhood as "Uncle Jake". He was born in Pennsylvania on May 25, 1818, and came to Quincy in 1836. That place was then but a frontier village and woodworkers were in demand. He found employment first with Gov. John Wood. Two years after he came to Quincy and just sixty-three years ago he was married to Miss May Sykes at Beverly. They made Quincy their home until 1848, when he purchased a farm in Beverly, which he occupied ever since. To farming he added the lumber business and an undertaking establishment. His life was passed in active pursuits, even during the past few years after he had passed four score years. In church matters he affiliated with the Methodists, and many members of the Beverly congregation will have cause to regret his death. Deceased is survived by two sons, two daughters, and a brother. The sons are Frank, of Decatur, and William, of Beverly. The latter is at present in Texas, and all day Sunday and Monday efforts were made to reach him by telegraph, but without avail. The daughters are Mrs. Orlando Havird, of Richfield, and Mrs. Thomas Shephard, of Barry. The brother is David Funk, of Baylis. The funeral will take place this Thursday morning at 10 o'clock." __ (I am not related to Jake Funk. Gerri)

Mrs. Cornelia Ann Mitchell, an aged and respected resident of Barry, passed away last Sunday evening. She had been in poor health for some time. She was well known here and in Quincy, and her many friends will be sorry to learn of her death. She was a woman who endeared herself to all who made her acquaintance, and all extend sympathy to her husband and relatives in their bereavement. Cornelia Ann Lippincott was born in Camden, N.J. August 17, 1832, and departed this life at her home in Barry, Ill., in the evening of December 3, 1911, aged 79 years, 3 months and 16 days. She came to Illinois with her parents when a child. In 1853 Miss Lippincott was united in marriage with Peterson Jennings, and to their union five children were given, three daughters and two sons, of whom three daughters and one son are living and today mourn as only those do who mourn for their mother. On April 30, 1896, Mrs. Jennings was united in marriage with W.T. Mitchell, who surves. Born in a Christian family our sister confessed her faith in Christ early in life and has spent her long life in fellowship with the church and her Savior. She united with the Barry Methodist Episcopal church by letter in 1895. During the years when the infirmities and weakness of age were hers she gave every assurance of her salvation and preparation for that transition from her earthly home to her father's house above. Today we are comforted in the thought that she has entered upon the full enjoyment of all that Jesus made ready for her again her coming. IL, Thursday November 28, 1901, in part: "Charles M. Grammer died at his home in Beverly township on Wednesday morning, November 20, 1901, aged 74 years, 2 months and 23 days. Mr. Grammer was born in Woburn, Middlesex county, Massachusetts, August 10, 1827, and came of a family noted for its patriotism and love of country. His paternal grandfather, Joseph Grammer, was a hero of the revolutionary war. He was captured by the British, taken to England and confined in Dartmoor prison for two years. His material grandfather was also a revolutionary soldier and with members of the Grammer family fought at the battle of Brandywine. His own father was in the war of 1812, and a cousin, Col. Thomas Grammer, commanded a regiment in the civil war and is yet living in Massachusetts. A brother, Seth W. Grammer, whom we remember so well, served during the civil was in the Seventy-eighth Illinois Infantry and was a favorite in his company and regiment. Mr. Grammer was a son of Seth and Lydia Grammer and was one of a family of nine sons and one daughter, but the sister is the only one now living. He attended the public schools of Massachusetts, but his great store of useful knowledge was the result of continued observation and study throughout a long life. He came with his parents at the age of 13 to Perry, Pike county, Ill., and in the following year, 1841, came with them to Beverly township, which has ever since been his home. Upon attaining his majority he went with the tide of gold seekers to California, going by way of Cape Horn in a sailing vessel, the trip occupying about six months; was gone three years, and was one of the few that to a satisfactory degree was successful. Upon his return to Beverly in 1853 he was united in marriage with Miss Martha E. Harvey, a most estimable member of a most worthy family. To them were born sixteen children, fifteen of whom are living, seven sons and eight daughters, all of whom are successfully engaged in their avocations of life, an honor to their parents and a credit to their country. Mr. Grammer's life was very successful. Though starting in limited circumstances, by perseverance he overcame obstacles, and by industry and enterprise he, in addition to providing for a large family, acquired one of the most comfortable as well as one of the most happy homes in our township. He was not only well known throughout the county, but enjoyed the friendship as well as the acquaintance of some of the foremost men of our state. Besides filling various of her public offices he was supervisor of our township for a quarter of a century, and in that capacity was of great service to the county, and was readily conceded to be the ablest member of the board. He was a Mason for thirty-eight years holding membership with the Kinston lodge, No. 266, A.F. and A.M., and for the period of eighteen years held the office of Worshipful Master. In the latter part of March last he became partially paralyzed and continued to fail till his death occurred. In closing this sketch of our beloved friend who has gone from us we quote from a letter written by him of a loved neighbor that had passed away, saying "We trust that he awaits his faithful companion, the choice of his early manhood, over in that beautiful city on that evergreen shore." Funeral services were conducted by Rev. W.M. Halley from the late home Friday afternoon, Nov. 22, at 2 o'clock. After the services at the house, Kingston lodge No. 266 A.F. and A.M. took charge and escorted the remains to Mound Prairie cemetery, where the remains were buried with Masonic honors." __ (I am not related to this person - GW).

On the 28th day of June, 1835, he was married to Sylvinia Sweet, of Berlin, New York, and resided in Berkshire county, Mass., until he removed to Pike county, Illinois, in 1837. He died on the 22d day of Nov., 1901, at the age of 91 years, 10 months and 20 days. The end of this long and happy life marked the repose in which he lived. A hale and hearty manhood has found its repose. Nathaniel Smith lived the rugged life of the rugged pioneer. He settled in our midst at the early day when all was new, and awaited the approach of the civilizing hand. For nearly 67 years he has lived in this county and the greater part of this time he has lived in our town, where he was familiarly greeted by every one as Grandpa or Uncle Than.
