As I look over the message I recently sent I see two errors: Asa P R Smith father of Mitilda Jane was buried in Green Pond cemetery not in Bedford. See page 131 of Vol 5 of "Cemetery Records of Pike County, Illinois". Tombstone gives date of birth and death as 1811-1894. He, his wife, Miranda, and Miltilda Jane were born in New York, not MY. Other children from Dodge Co, Wisconsin in 1850 were: Permelia M age 12 b NY Sarah E age 10 b NY Jane age 8 b NY Deborah A age 4 b Wisc Daniel A age 1 b Wisc Asa P R was age 39 b NY Miranda age 35 b NY In 1860 in he is in Spring Creek twp, Pike Co, Il with family: A P Smith age 48 b NY Sarah age 20 b NY Jane age 18 b NY Deborah age 14 b Wisc Daniel age 12 b Wisc George age 9 b Wisc neither Miranda nor Permelia was listed with family. George Smith married and lived in Pike County. I believe he is buried with his wife, Mary, as well as, several of their children at Green Pond cemetery. My notes indicate that the Chaplin(s) and Ballinger families are intermarried with the Asa Smith family. Martin V Daniels served in the 99th Ill Inf in the Civil War and both he and Matilda Jane received pensions, and in 1902 George W Daniels, a minor, also received a pension. Martin V Daniels is buried at Green Pond. If anyone finds a Holford connection with the Asa P R Smith family I would greatly appreaciate learning of it. Bill Owens-Smith
Say, Cincinnati would be Hamilton Co. not Brown Co. OH for John P. Stephenson. :-7 Brown is two counties east of there - my Williamsons, one of which and desc. ended up in Pike Co. were from Brown Co. originally. Am looking for an obit for Wesley P. Waite who died around 10 Apr.1983 around the Griggsville area. Thank You for any help or information you can give me. Bobbie
I worked on this family once because they lived next door to a Holford family (my family line) I worked on. I believe Matilda Jane was dau of Asa P R Smith who is buried in the Bedford Cem with some members of his family. He was born in MY abt 1811 and his wife Miranda was also born there. They had several children ( I have names if you are interested. They lived in Wisconsin, in Dodge county where there were Holfords from NY in 1850.) I still have reason to believe either Asa or his wife Miranda were related to Isaac Holford or his wife Mary whom I believe may have been a Heath. Hi Betty. My Matilda was married to Martin Van Buren Daniels who died in 1897. That's rare to have two Matilda Jane Daniels both from the same county. I think they are two different people but thanks anyway. Hi Norm. I didn't think there were that many Matilda Jane Daniels in Pike Co. but I guess there were at least two. My Matilda always went by the name of Jane M. Daniels at least on the census records. Her husband's name was Martin Van Buren Daniels. He died 1897. The last time I found her was on a 1900 census so I know she died after 1900. I also know her maiden name was Smith. That is about all I have on her at this time as I haven't been working on her very long. Thanks for the help. Thanks Lucile for the look-up. My Matilda Jane's husband was Martin V. Daniels. I didn't think Matilda was that common of a name. I don't know of many times I found my Matilda using her first name for anything but a middle initial. Thanks again. I have a Matilda Daniels born 19 Apr 1833 died 1 Dec 1896 wife of Isaac Daniels b. 29 Apr 1833, but do not show a death date in the cemetery book. This was found in the Bedford Cemetery, which is located in Montezuma Township, and I think that it is close to the Illinois River, but have never been in this cemetery. This is in Pike County, Illinois. I don't know if the death certificate would be in the Pike County Court House or not. They start in 1878. I do not know when they had to be recorded.
