Hello List, Since it is almost Veteran's Day I thought it might be nice to try to locate the family of a LLOYD KELLY/KELLEY who served in WW2. Lloyd was the best friend of my father RAYMOND HELVEY of Pinckneyville who served in the US NAVY aboard the battleship USS TENNESSEE. Lloyd was from P'Ville also. While I'm on the subject, here is a "letter to the Editor" from a P'Ville newspaper sent from my dad and a EDWIN E. ZIPPRODT to a "Matt" who was probably an editor/columnist. Dear Matt: I suppose you are wondering who this could be from? Well Matt, at one time I lived in Pinckneyville and was there long enough that I feel it is a good city. I have written letters before to you, but haven't mailed them. Helvey said, "This one must go." Helvey, a very good friend of mine, who is in the same division also receives your paper, and we enjoy it to the fullest extent, especially the service men's news. We just finished reading Woodie Herrmanny and others in your column. Helvey and I have been together for a year now, and around plenty. I'm not allowed to say where we are going, but can say we are fine and keeping ourselves busy. I am in charge of the Ship's Store and Helvey in charge of General Store Keeping (GSK). We are both kept very busy of the time. Matt, I know you are busy too, so I won't take any more of your valuable time. We just wanted to say we really enjoy your paper and know it sure builds up our moral. Matt, keep up the good work, and the fellows aboard ship sure do enjoy your paper. Sincerely, Raymond L. Helvey. Edwin E. Zipprodt. NOTE: Zip, we remember you and want to say our time is never too full but we can enjoy swell letters such as yours and Helvey's. Matt.
