    3. GRANDMA DAVIS PASSES AWAY AT THE AGE OF 81 (Pinckneyville, IL. Advocate 12-11-1914) Elizabeth Harris was born in the state of Delaware in 1833. For sixty years she has been a member of the Baptist church. In 1853 she was united in marriage to Reuben Davis, and to this union were born eleven children, six of whom survive, Mary, James, Charles, Monroe, John, and Henry, besides twenty-seven grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. Forty-five years of this aged lady's life was spent on a farm four miles north of Pinckneyville, but for the past three years has made her home in this city. Her husband preceded her to the grave forty-three years ago. At the time of her death was 81 years 8 months and 11 days of age. She was laid to rest in the Oak Grove cemetery Wednesday morning. WILLIAM MONROE DAVIS DIED LAST SATURDAY (no date) William Monroe Davis, son of Mr. Reuben and Elizabeth Davis, was born north of Pinckneyville, April 11th, 1863 and departed this life at his home in Pinckneyville Saturday morning, Nov. 5, 1932 at 3:18 a.m. For the last eleven weeks he was confined to his bed with a cancer. His passing came at the age of 69 years 6 months and 24 days. Early in his life he professed a hope in Christ and baptized a member of the Oak Grove Baptist Church just north of Pinckneyville where his membership remained until the last. Mr. Davis was a charter member of the I. B. and T. of Pinckneyville. At the age of 24 years he was united in marriage to Miss Vesta Reisinger who has preceded him in death 34 years ago. Five children were born to this union, three dying in infancy and one daughter, Mrs. Elta Davis Carter in 1924. Huey Davis of this city survives. Later Mr. Davis was married to Miss Myrtle Marlow and to this union were born six children, two dying in infancy and one daughter, Clara, departed this life nine years ago in August. The three surviving children are Mrs. Effie McDonough and Mrs. Bessie Presswood and one son, Reuben all of Pinckneyville, Ill. Besides the above mentioned, he leaves to mourn his departure two brothers, Bud and Henry Davis of Pinckneyville and one sister, Mrs. M. Scholebo, with a host of nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends. Funeral services were conducted by Iver E. Miller at the First Baptist Church in Pinckneyville Monday Nov. 7, 1932. JAMES ADAM DAVIS DIED IN PINCKNEYVILLE (no date) James Adam Davis, the second of eleven children of Reuben and Elizabeth Davis, was born about four miles north of Pinckneyville on Jan. 17, 1857, and departed this life at his home in Pinckneyville on April 17, 1934, after a short illness, at the ripe old age of 77 years and 3 months. On August 7, 1889, he was united in marriage to Miss Alice Brown, and to this union five children were born. One daughter, Mrs. Elizabeth Brown, preceded her father in death some twenty-three years ago. In early manhood Mr. Davis professed a hope in Christ and united with the Oak Grove Baptist Church by baptism under the ministry of Rev. Alec Rice, and about 18 years ago he and his wife moved their membership to the First Baptist Church in this city. Mr. Davis was a life-time resident of this county, spending most of his life at farming, living a quiet life, devoted to his family and work. He is survived by his widow and four children. Hugh and Howard, Miss Nora and Mrs. John Pedigo all of Pinckneyville; one sister Mrs. Mary Schelebo of Sparta, and one brother Henry Davis, living north of Pinckneyville; three grand-children. WELL KNOWN FARMER DIES AT THE AGE OF 64 (Perry CO. Advocate 8-24-1928) John G. Davis, a well known farmer, departed this life at his farm home north of town last Friday August 17, at the age of 64 years, 5 months and 17 days. In 1898 he was united in marriage to Miss Christena Huth, who with her two daughters, Mrs. Emma Kelley and Mrs. Nellie Morgenthalor and one son John, survive. Also a little nephew George Huth who had made his home with them since infancy and 5 grandchildren. The deceased was also a brother of Mrs. Mary Scholebo, Bud Monroe and Henry Davis of this city. Funeral services were held at Oak Grove church Sunday, August 19 at 9 o'clock, conducted by Eld. Marion Wilson of this city.
