My Davis family originally came from Virginia and settled in Perry by 1840-50. There were twelve children all together and we have found seven so far. Thanks, Nancy Helvey --------------47365C3FD10F89E971AB32EF Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii; name="PhilDavisGen1.txt" Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit Content-Disposition: inline; filename="PhilDavisGen1.txt" Descendants of Phillip Davis Generation No. 1 1. PHILLIP1 DAVIS was born in Virginia or South Carolina. He married ANN HILLEN September 20, 1803 in Washington County, Virginia, daughter of JAMES HILLEN and KESIAH BAILEY. Notes for SARAH DAVIS: Sarah Davis was married twice before she married Henry Helvey. One was John Williams in Washington CO. VA. and the other was Joseph Bruitt in Perry CO. IL. Sarah's family was from Washington CO. VA. When her father died the family left VA. and headed to Illinois where her older brothers were living. We cannot find where Sarah is buried. One possibility is that she is buried in St. Clair CO. IL somewhere. When she and Henry were having their problems in the 1880s she went to be near her daughter Malissa in Freeburg. Sarah most likely died sometime after 1890. Marriage Notes for SARAH DAVIS and JOHN WILLIAMS: Sarah and John were married by F.L.B. Shaver Notes for HENRY HELVEY: Henry Helvey was one of the early pioneers of Perry County, Illinois. The county originated in 1827 and Henry appears in the census of 1850. According to Don Helvey, the Helveys came from Virginia and settled in the Piedmont-Ellington Missouri area. Henry ended up in Perry County Illinois. His family went back and forth between Illinois and Missouri. Here is a question. In 1880 there is a Sarah Helvey who died on February 8 of complications from childbirth. She is listed as married and was 28 years old. Is this Sarah a child of Henry and Sarah's or was she a wife of one of the boys that we don't know about? Henry and Sarah went through a nasty divorce in the 1880s. Sarah went to Freeburg, Illinois to be near her daughter Malissa and Henry went to Reynolds CO. where Cyrus H. Helvey was living (and other Helvey relatives). Henry died there and is buried at the Helvey Cemetery. Marriage Notes for SARAH DAVIS and HENRY HELVEY: Henry and Sarah were married 26 days before their son Matthew Turner Helvey was born. vi. REUBEN H. DAVIS, b.
