I am researching Frederick SPRENGER (1836-1915). He was born in Germany and migrated at an early age with his parents to the Cincinnati area. He worked in Cincinnati as a machinist and engineer until he was convinced by mine owner Bobby White to build the Red Onion mine, which was supposed to be the first mine in Southern Illinois. It must have been in the Tamaroa, Perry Co., area since that is where Frederick settled his family. I have been unable to find any info on the Red Onion mine. Has anyone ever heard of this mine?
