Hello Jonna, I have a book put out by the Perry County Historical Society called, "Directory of Coal Mines in Illinois, Perry County." It is from the Illinois State Geological Survey. Anyway, it has the Whipporwill (all one word)mine listed. This is the information it has about it: ISGS Index: 182 Company Name: Whip Poor Will CC Mine Name: Whippoorwill Mine Type: Shaft Method Years Operated: 1934-1939 Seam Mined: Herrin Location: 6S (twp) 4W (range) 5(section) I hope this helps.
