I HOPE YOU REALIZE THIS IS A JOINT WORKS IN PROGRESS! <g> It represents many years research for several people. Rebecca, Where did you get a name for the wife of Joshua M. Rice? No, I do not know where that address would be near P'ville area. Maybe someone in Perry county can tell us. I have been told that Joshua M. Rice was the first treasurer of Perry co, IL when it was made a county. In 1830 census Joshua M Rice was in the 40-50 age group. His children were 1 male 0-5, probably Moses L B age 2, Jahu T.age 5. Male 10-15 thought to be James M. male 15- 20- John J, , . and Abner 20 (later census shows John J born 1816) female 5-10 female 10-15 female 30-40 This must have been the wife. In 1850 Hamilton co IL census listed with John J. Rice family was brother Jahue J. born 1820 now 30(?) years old, born in TN and living with John. John J. Rice had a son named Willam D. who had a son James Henry Rice. We believe that Joshua M. Rice lived by Curlee Chapel cemetery. We also believe that William D. Rice is buried at Curlee Chapel Cemetery. Last I knew, if they haven't moved it, Curlee Cemetery was north of Tamaroa. That is why I asked if you live in Perry co, now. I know there are Grafs down there still. William D Rice was born in IL, his father and mother were born in TN. This is from 1850 Hamilton co, IL Dist. 10, house #125.. 1860 Hamilton co, IL John J. Rice family was household 280. William D. Rice was in 1880 Perry co, IL census with wife and 3 children. In 1840 census, Joshua m was 50-60 and lived in Perry co, IL with 2 males, 3 females, one his wife apparently. she is also 50-60 years old. I have that John J Rice, father of William D, was born in TN. I am working with information taken from census by a cousin not on line. Are you familiar with any of these names? William D. Married Elizabeth Jane Harper in TN, she and her parents were all born TN. Our family oral history is that she was one half Cherokee. And we all show that heritage. They were back and forth from TN for years. Were these part of the RICE brothers from TN who founded RICE, IL over by Pinckneyville in Perry co, IL?? I have a family sheet for an Alex H. Rice b 1835, m. Susan Hutchings. Are they yours? Still looking for Jack Rice the prize fighter, born mid 1800s. ----- Original Message ----- From: R Graf <[email protected]> To: gijoeww2 <[email protected]> Sent: Thursday, February 08, 2001 10:53 PM Subject: Re: Perry County Rices > Joe, > > I'm so excited!
