Doug, If she died in St. Louis and was cremated there then I doubt there would be any record in Perry County, IL of her death. You might find an obit, but I doubt much more. Do you know what happened to her cremated remains? I recently did a search for my great-great-grandmothers sister and found that she had been cremated in St. Louis. She died in 1927 and I found out that her ashes were still in storage and could be claimed by her next of kin for disposition. At some point, not sure when, they will dispose of the ashes themselves if someone doesn't claim them. Interesting moral dilemma for my family, one we are still discussing. Doug, You would need to visit the LDS FHC and fill out a request form and pay a fee for each microfilm. I'm not sure of the fee anymore, but I think it used to be about $5.00 for each roll. It's been awhile since I've used an FHC, but as I recall it would take about 3 weeks for the film to arrive after you requested it, then you'd have it available for 1 or 2 months and could extend it longer if you wished (for an additional fee). I've had the good fortune to live or be able to travel to the counties I've needed to research, but I've especially found the LDS FHC microfilms valuable in searching overseas records. They do have some data online, check their website at www.familysearch.org . I'm not a member of the LDS nor do I make any judgement on their religious beliefs. They are an excellent resource for genealogist, although ALWAYS check the source of their data as much has been contributed by other researchers (both good and bad). Hi Doug, How close are you to an LDS FHC? The have mircofilmed copies of the Grantor/Grantee index to land records of Perry County, IL 1827-1890; as well as microfilm copies of the deed themselves from 1827-1950. Another possibility is to contact IRAD, but I'm not sure if they have the Grantor/Grantee indexes for Perry County. You might also try contacting the County Courthouse and ask them about the availability of a search of the Grantor/Grantee indexes. Perry County Perry County Clerk and Recorder P.O. Yes, it would have some information, I don't remember just how much. I'll check the land records while I'm in Pinckneyville next Wednesday. Hi Mary Lee, they had to record them starting in 1916. There are a lot on record before that........most of the time not the ones you are looking for. While Catherine lived in Tamaroa, in her illness she was taken to St. Anthony's Hospital (I believe in St. Louis) where she died. She was waked at her daughter's home in Clayton, Missouri and then cremated at Hillcrest Abbey in St. Louis. So I don't think there will be any records of her death in Perry County Illinois.
