Stella, Thank you very much. Census day in 1910 was 15 April, the Crane that died in May might be Joel. I know in 1910 he is listed next to Riley Crawford in the census. Randy, Joel Crain is not listed in the cemetery records for the Poor Farm. In vitals there is a CRANE, no first name and no parents listed who died on May 4, 1910. There is a J. L. Crane b. 185 - d. 1930 buried in the Tamaroa Cemetery. I don't find him listed in any of the other cemetery records. I am looking for a death date of Joel Crain who was enumerated as an "inmate" in the Poor Farm in the 1910 census of Perry County. He is not in the Illinois Death Index, which starts in 1916. It is likely he died between 1910 and 1916. It is possible that if the records exist they might have a death date. Those dates are based on the fact he had lived there for some time when his wife Catherine died in 1910. I'd like to know how to find the real estate records detailing when he moved there and how long he remained. Any suggestions about where I should look? This is from the Missouri Death Certifificate Index that is online. They are from the year 1910 through 1955. Up to the year 1923 you can view the actual death certificate. Other years to follow. Thanks for the heads up. I had missed finding her when I searched for St. Louis City instead of St. Louis. Now I have that death certificate. Joel, At the time of Catherine's cremation, Joseph purchased a "drawer" at Hillcrest Abbey on Sublette Avenue in St. Louis where her remains along with his and those of his second wife, Anna remain to this day. Doug "Joel S. Russell" <jsruss@mindspring.com> wrote: Doug, If she died in St. Louis and was cremated there then I doubt there would be any record in Perry County, IL of her death. You might find an obit, but I doubt much more. Do you know what happened to her cremated remains? I recently did a search for my great-great-grandmothers sister and found that she had been cremated in St. Louis. She died in 1927 and I found out that her ashes were still in storage and could be claimed by her next of kin for disposition. At some point, not sure when, they will dispose of the ashes themselves if someone doesn't claim them. Interesting moral dilemma for my family, one we are still discussing.
