Jonna and others: It is so wild what you can find on Ebay. I have even got local items at yard sells. Few weeks ago I stoped at one near P.Ville and looked around. There was a old photo album but no photos. I asked the lady about the album. She told me they took the photos out and tossed them in the trash. She didnt think anyone would want them. She told me she thought they was not worth anything. The same thing happend last spring a lady trashed a old album of postcards. In talking to her she also tossed some old Doctor records 1880s in the trash too. Just makes me sick. O well thats my 2 cents for the day. Thank you so much Joel for posting the message regarding the Cottom Family Bible. Without you doing this I would never have known this bible was on ebay! I was able to win the bid on this and I couldn't be happier. If there are other's on this board who are interested in getting copies of it, please let me know. Thanks a million!!!!!!!!!!!!! Thought I would also send this to this List. Kim -----Original Message----- From: Chapman Kim Sent: Thursday, September 28, 2006 6:46 AM To: 'ilfrankl@rootsweb.com' Subject: RE: [ILFRANKL] Fielding W. Lewis Carleen, These are my "other" LEWISes! You have run across my 3rd-great uncle and his family. My Franklin County (maternal) LEWIS line is down from James LEWIS and Angeline BEASLEY, who came to Franklin County before 1834, via Tennessee/Kentucky, from North Carolina. My other (paternal) LEWIS line is this one: Stephen LEWIS, b. bet. 1775 and 1778 in Frederick Co., Virginia, married about 1801 Juliana GRIFFITH, b. abt 1786 in Maryland. Whether they married and later moved west to the Scioto Co., Ohio and LEWIS Co., Kentucky area (these are just across the Ohio River from each other, and early families appear to have moved several(?) times from one to the other - and back), or met and married in the LEWIS Co., Kentucky/Scioto Co., Ohio area is presently unknown - but they were in what would become Scioto County by about 1800. (Stephen and Juliana were my 4th-great grandparents.) Stephen and Juliana had the following children: David LEWIS, b. about 1800 in Adams (later Scioto) Co., Ohio. Mary "Polly" LEWIS, b. 1802 in Adams (later Scioto) Co., Ohio. William LEWIS, b. abt 1808(?) in Scioto Co., Ohio. Jemima LEWIS, b. abt 1809 in Scioto Co., Ohio. Fielding (Fielden) Tilton LEWIS, b. 22 Feb 1810 in Scioto Co., Ohio. John T LEWIS, b. abt 1812 (1822?) in Lewis Co., Kentucky. Stephen LEWIS, Jr., b. 18 Jan 1814 in Lewis Co., Kentucky. The Stephen, age 46, you found in the 1860 Census is Stephen, Jr., son of Stephen and Juliana. Stephen, Jr. married Ann MORGAN on 5 Apr 1834 in Scioto Co., Ohio Stephen, Jr. and Ann had the following children (known and identified with certainty): Mary A LEWIS, b. 11 Mar 1835 in Lewis Co., Kentucky. William LEWIS , b. 9 Mar 1837 in Lewis Co., Kentucky, died aged 3 days. Juliana LEWIS, b. 29 Apr 1838 in Lewis Co., Kentucky. Elizabeth LEWIS, b. 29 Nov 1839 in Lewis Co., Kentucky. Stephen S LEWIS, b. abt 1840(?) in Lewis Co., Kentucky. Prudence LEWIS, b. 31 May 1845 in Lewis Co., Kentucky. Commodore Perry "C. P." LEWIS, b. 12 Dec 1847 in Lewis Co., Kentucky. John A Brady LEWIS, Rev., b. 9 Mar 1850 in Lewis Co., Kentucky, (twin). Robert R LEWIS, b. 9 Mar 1850 in Lewis Co., Kentucky, (twin). Fielding David LEWIS (see below). The Fielding listed in Stephen, Jr.'s family is Fielding David LEWIS, and his information is as follows. Fielding David LEWIS, b. 10 Sep 1853 Lewis Co., Kentucky, d 26 Feb 1881 of consumption in Lewis Co., Kentucky, buried at Black Oak Cemetery, Lewis County. Fielding David LEWIS married Nancy Jane GRIFFIN 17 Feb 1878 in Vanceburg, Lewis Co., Kentucky. They had the following children: Pearlie Ann LEWIS, b. 11 Feb 1879 in Lewis Co., Kentucky. Albert Jackson LEWIS, b.26 Jan 1881 in Lewis Co., Kentucky. The other Stephen, age 21, you found in the 1860 Census is the son of John T LEWIS (brother of the above Stephen (no, I cannot explain the Jr. reference) and Angeline SHAIN. John T LEWIS was a son of Stephen LEWIS and Juliana GRIFFITH. This family is also well documented in Lewis Co., Kentucky thru the late 1800s. So you can see that the Fielding LEWIS listed in the Stephen LEWIS family in the 1860 and 1870 Census in LEWIS Co., Kentucky cannot be the same individual as the Fielding LEWIS who is as on of the Stephen LEWIS family in the 1860 and 1870 Census of Perry Co., Illinois. None of my "other" LEWISes ever came to Franklin Co., Illinois (to my knowledge), but Stephen and Juliana's oldest daughter Mary married Edward CAMPBELL in 18?? in Scioto Co., Ohio, and at least 3 of Edward and Mary's children came to Southern Illinois, among them my 2nd-great grandfather, David F CAMPBELL - who came to Blissville Twp., Jefferson Co., Illinois and married there to Maryann Louisa DEES. However, for several years I have been trying to trace and connect 2 or 3 LEWIS families who show up in Jefferson, Marion, and Perry Counties at about the same time (from just before 1850 until just before 1860), and trace back to either Kentucky or Ohio. Given the names of the children (generation to generation), and the ages of the heads of household for these families, I believe that one or more may well be connected to my "other" LEWIS line. Some of the descendants of these so far untraced LEWIS families ended up in the far western reaches of Franklin County now and then - among them some of the children of Fielding William LEWIS (father of Bell). As I pointed out in my last (summary) posting: Bell was d/o Fielding William (or William Fielding) LEWIS; Fielding William was s/o Stephen D LEWIS; Stephen D LEWIS was s/o Fielding LEWIS of Warren Co., Ohio - this much is fairly certain. But, though I do have mention of a David LEWIS and a Fielding LEWIS who moved from Virginia to the Warren Co., Ohio area in the very early 1800s - I have not managed as yet to determine that that Fielding LEWIS is with certainty the grandfather of Fielding W LEWIS of Perry Co., Illinois. Would love to hear further from anyone having connections with any of these LEWIS families. Not sure they can provide the missing information. They were married in Randolph Co but I'm not sure their parent's names would be listed. In other family lines, I have found patterns where children were named after grandparents, then parents, then aunts/uncles. Their first female child named Jane Ann maybe after mother (or possibly maternal grandmother as I found a tree indicating Jane McHatton's parents were Alexander McHatton and Jennei Smith). First male child named Robert Alexander - this could be a combination of Francis' father's name and Jane's father's name or maybe that was Jane's father's full name. I have tried to consider leads with the children's names but continue to end up with dead ends. Just wanted to say that, like Jean, I am also a legitimate member of this board. I think this is a good time to remind people that while it's good to be cautious regarding who you are contacting and who you are sharing information with, that for the most part all of us as genealogists are very willing to share information and to correspond with others researching the same families. However, no matter how much we would like to be helpful, sometimes life gets in the way. Personally, I work full time, take bachelor courses at night and teach a Beginner's course in Genealogy at my local teach college. Not to mention raising a family and attempts at having a personal life, so we are not always able to respond as quickly as we would like to. So please be patient with me. I've been on both ends of that, and have had to wait a long time to get a response but eventually it comes around. I would really like to help you Rama, and we should talk because I was looking back at my old saved email and we had corresponded back in 2003. We also have the Bigham's in common. It looks as if I had responded to you at that time but I had never gotten a response back from you. I don't have a ton in my files on Francis but I do have some other Smith information that may be helpful. Can you tell me specifically what you have already and what you are specifically looking for? That would help me respond quicker. If you would like respond to my private email at jonnawanna@yahoo.com or on this board. Thanks!! I do not need this subject to be emailed to the Perry Co IL Mail List. Some folks are newbies to mail lists so keep that in mind. My rules for the list is below. This is a good mail list no problems that I have seen since taking it over. I have many mail lists including Johnson , Union , Shelby, Montgomery and others. NO VIRUS WARNINGS TO THE LIST NO SPAM NOTICES TO THE LIST NO FLAMING of others. In other words if it is not Perry Co IL Genealogy or History or a good genealogy tip or link don't send it to the PERRY CO IL Mail list. If you have a problem with another subscriber send the email to thier email address not the Perry Co IL mail list. If a subscriber has been rude to another subscriber and emails them and it is uncalled for send me a copy of the email at timcasey1@verizon.net . I will look into it and fix it. Anyone who is subscribed to this list is a Genealogist or History person on the subject of PERRY CO IL. SPAM comes from everywhere and no one is going to be exempt from it. I just went thru 14 emails pending to this list to see if they were acceptable to the mail list, selling insurance , nonsense emails. This seems to be the new mail list software , if the email is not a subscriber I see it before a subscriber does. Tim Casey
I am so sorry I caused this lady to be so infuriated. I have been on the mailing list for a long time. I read all posts to determine if someone is working on the same family lines, as I am. My query was my first and only post. I was very hopeful when I received responses to this query as I have been at a dead end for a long time. (I guess I remain at a dead end, as this poster is very angry at my question.) Later, I thought it was odd that I was asked to contact 2 posters privately and then never heard from them but the amount of spam I received increased. I am always concerned about putting my email address "out there" because of spammers. And, spammers do use all means possible to obtain active addresses. I sent this poster 3 emails over the period of time. None of them were returned. I also never received a reply. All I can say is that I received Tim Casey's email as well as another person regarding this situation, yesterday. Doesn't seem to be a problem with my address. I certainly understand not wanting to be labeled a spammer. Now, I hope you will understands being on guard against spammers. Life is too precious to be infuriated or infuriating. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Tim Casey" <timcasey1@verizon.net> To: <ilperry@rootsweb.com> Cc: <akakuek@aol.com> Sent: Saturday, September 09, 2006 6:32 AM Subject: [ILPERRY] Tim Casey Mail List Adminstrator > 1.
