Could I get a lookup for the following? I know he was there in 1864. I am hoping he was there in 1860. Thank You Carol ANDREW S. KELLER , age abt. 33 yrs old, born Germany (could also be A. S. Keller , or ANDREAS Keller) (I don't think he had a wife at this time? A former wife died in 1859 and he did'nt marry again until 1862) Son: ANDREW KELLER , age 7 or 8 yrs old.( born in 1853)
Hi, I am new to the list. I am hoping that I can share information and gain information on my husband's family who lived in Perry Co., IL. LaFayette Parsons moved to Perry Co. around 1860 from Ontario Co., NY. He married Harriet E. Florer May 25, 1872 there in Perry Co. They were married by Rev. W. Sanford Gee. Four of their six children were born in Perry Co. Harriet (Hattie) Florer was born in Montgomery Co., IN. We believe she was living with her uncle Jared Merwin Stone and his family. J. W. Stone was a professor at the Dequoin Seminary. He died October 10, 1876 in Duquoin, Perry Co., IL. Hattie and LaFayette Parsons moved and settled in Ellis Co., TX in the 1890's. Does anyone have any information on the Parsons or Stone family? What type of school was Dequoin Seminary? Thank you, Ellen Parsons
Ellen, I was just looking through my Perry County History Book and found: in 1852 plans were being made for the Du Quoine (note spelling) Seminary. Pamphlets were distributed using this spelling and showed sketches of the proposed Presbyterian boarding school to educate future teachers. Then down a bit further is says: The Du Quoin Female Seminary, located on Seminary Hhill in Old Du Quoin, came about through the desires of two people. The residents, who wanted a good school for their children, secured the assitance of Presbyterian minister, Josiah Wood, Eliza paine, of the East, dreamed of establishing a seminary in the wilderness of the West. With the endorsement of the Boston Ladies Society, she came to teach in Old Du Quoin. The article goes on and there is a photo ca 1892 with a few students and Teacher Merwin Stone. If you will give me your snail mail address I will copy it for you. Lorna Toti (Allen, Hill, Fullerton)

He married Rebecca Eaton in Perry Co. on Jan. 25, 1833. Lewis was born at Bedford Co. Tennessee, as were Rice Benson and Samuel Benson, who also farmed nearby. Thanks.
I'm researching information on my great grandparents: Frederick Jacob GRAF/GRAFF and his wife Lillie Mae KINGCADE/KINCAID. I would like to find out where Fred was born and who his parents were. He was reportedly born in Belleville, St. Clair Co., IL to Allen & Mary GRAF/GRAFF and she in Perry Co. to Thomas & Elizabeth KINGCADE/ KINCAID, but I have no verification of these data. The Illinois Statewide Marriage Index shows Fred & Lillie married in Perry Co. on 12/18/1883. Of course, the 1890 Census is not available! So far, I've found Fred, 'May', and family in the 1900 Perry Co. Census. He is (back) in Belleville without her in 1910 and 1920 according to St. Clair Co. Census. I think that she may have died in 1903 in Perry Co. - I've ordered a copy of the obituary indexed as 'Mrs. Fred GROFF, age 41, Mar 9, 1903'. Here is most of the data from the 1900 Census: DuQuoin Precinct, Perry Co., Illinois - 5th of May 1900 DuQuoin, 4th Ward E.D. #51 - Sheet #3, Lines 79-86 Address: E. I would be happy to share what little else I have. Regards to all, Bill Troutt Katy, TX T Hodges wrote: > > It's been fairly quiet on the lists so lets stir things up by doing a roll > call.
Thanks to all of you who sent me this and their responses. Yes, this is the John Henry Knapp who was brother to my grandfather. I gave Mollie's siblings names to Becky. I am researching the Bensons of Perry Co. Lewis Benson married Rebecca Eaton there in 1833, and are my gggrandparents. They farmed in the Lost Prairie area until Lewis passed in 1862. Both are interred at Galum Baptist Cemetery. I am looking for the parents of Lewis. Lewis, Rice and Samuel Benson all purchased land at the Kaskaskia land office on Aug. 1, 1838, in addition to other purchases, and all three were born at Bedford Co. in Tennessee. I"m also looking for the relationship of these three. Cliff Benson
My great great grandfather was Archibald Wilson, Sr., born about 1810 in Scotland. His first son, Archibald Wilson, Jr., was born 1840 in Florida, according to census records. By 1850, the family was in Perry Co. IL. I don't know anything about the Andersons, but I'm thinking they may have arrived in Perry Co. about the same time, so possibly they came together. I don't know if any ships from Scotland ever landed in Florida, but this is the only possibility that makes sense to me for now. I have no idea who Archibald Wilson, Sr.'s wife was, only named Jane, and she was born in Scotland according to census records. Archibald Jr. married Jane Woodward in Perry Co. Both families lived near Duquoin. I will save your Anderson query, and if I ever learn anything about the Wilson's journey from Scotland, I'll let you know. And if you learn anything on your Anderson's journey, I'd love to hear it, just in case they did come from the same place at the same time. Thanks for the invite to the roll call. I have been looking for the country of origin for my ggrandfather forever and have not been successful. His name was Francis Anderson and he is buried at Galumn Presbyterian Cemetery. He was married to Elizabeth Graham and had five children there in the Pinckneyville area. My grandfather was Ulysses Grant Anderson who was born to Elizabeth and Francis in 1865 or thereabouts. If I could find Francis' country of origin perhaps I could take it further in Ireland, Scotland, Sweden or where ever her came from. I have searched so many ships manifests I am blue in the face. As near as I can tell he came to this country during the 1840's. Thanks for any help that anyone may be able to give me. Hello Everyone, I am seeking information about my GGGrandfather Harmon P. STANTON. I can find no trace of him before he came to Pinckneyville around 1850. There were other STANTON'S and STAUNTONS in Perry CO. but cannot connect to them. My Great Uncle was listed in his obituary as a STAUNTON. The family story is that Harmon came from England or Whales. I thought maybe I had hit the jackpot when I sent for his obituary from the Du Quoin Tribune but all it said was that he would be sadly missed. He passed away in 1889 and the papers at the Du Quoin Library that would have his obit in them were missing. He was listed as a Justice of the Peace and in his obit he was listed as Harmon P. STANTON, ESQ. However the list of JP'S in Perry does not have him on it. Truly a brick wall. Virginia STANTON CUNNINGHAM

I went to Valier. I did find two streets named with their names. One Wilson and the other Rea. There was not library there. Josiah lived in the area. Peter died young in the mines about 1900.
