    1. Re: Re: [ILPERRY] Kyle Onstott of DuQuoin, b. 1887
    2. Jon Musgrave
    3. Thanks Peg and Chris for you quick response. I see that the Illinois Statewide Marriage Index shows a Don Onstott who married a Mrs. Barbara Pyle in Madison County on April 5, 1877. Previously, a Barbara Pyle had married an Andrew Pyle of Madison County on March 16, 1864 in Perry County. Does anyone have any more on these families. I noticed that on Nov. 2, 1899 a Dan Onstott married a Sophonra Anderson in Gallatin County, and earlier that year a Frank M. Onstott married a Florence/Flora Smith in neighboring Saline County on Feb. 22, 1899. The earliest Onstott I've found in Perry County tonight is an Elihu Onstott married an Ann Wells in Perry County on Jan. 30, 1840. Again, thanks for the help. Sincerely, Jon Musgrave www.IllinoisHistory.com

    1. [ILPERRY] Kyle Onstott of DuQuoin, b. 1887
    2. Jon Musgrave
    3. Hello, I just signed up for the list. Does anyone know anything about the Onstott family who lived in Perry County in the late 19th Century (and possibly 20th as well). I'm looking for confirmation that Kyle Onstott, born in 1887, was actually born in Perry County, and better yet, actually grew up in DuQuoin. I'm not related to Onstott, but instead I'm researching the Old Slave House near Equality, Illinois. In the mid 1950s, Onstott's book, Mandingo, became a best seller. It's depiction of plantation times went far beyond the tame Gone With The Wind version. Onstott and fellow author Lance Horner ended up writing a series of these racy plantation-themed novels known as the Falconhurst series. Hollywood later made a rather bad movie based on the book in the 1970s. It had the same title. There are similarities between some of the stories at the Old Slave House and the book Mandingo. I'm wondering where Onstott learned about slavery and whether or not he may have picked up any stories from the region. If anyone has a transcription of the 1900 census of Perry County and could do a lookup I would be very grateful. I'll appreciate any help I can get. Sincerely, Jon Musgrave www.IllinoisHistory.com

    1. [ILPERRY] Need Help with DAVIS
    2. Janice Goldey
    3. Although I'm slowly trying to hunt the cemeteries , I'm at a loss on one of my ancestors. I'm pretty sure he went by a nickname and that is why i can't find him. Babe DAVIS m. Mary Roberson (this maiden name is still not proven). All I know is this: Mary was born in 1884 and died in 1970's. I know where she is buried and will be going there soon. But Babe is not buried beside her. Babe supposedly died in the 1940's and we believe he was close to perhaps the Duquoin area. Can anyone help me find my missing link? I do know that one of their children was born in 1905. I haven't been able to find them in census records for 1910 etc. Any help would be appreciated. 3. Dear Eileen, I have the information from one of the cousin that Daniel Ellsworth Quillman was born 5/22/1865, died April 1940 in Pinckneyville, IL. And his wife, Elmira Emiline "EllaMae" Quillman, died in Pinckneyville, Illinois in May 30, 1915, buried in Old Fellows Cemetery in Pinckneyville, Illinois. So they should really be there, Eileen.
