Despite the horror stories about Springdale Cemetery, I was pleasantly surprised to find a helpful staff person when I went there in person about ten days ago. I actually arrived shortly after 4:30, when the office closes, and the woman reopened the office and went out of her way to locate records pertaining to the grave I was seeking, photocopying the records, and providing a map and directions to the gravesite. I'm sorry I didn't get her name, because she was truly helpful and interested in the research I was doing. The very day I visited Peoria and Springdale, there was an article in the newspaper about a new proposal for "revitalizing" Springdale. Each time I visit, more and more sections are being overrun by prairie grass. I finally located the gravesite I was looking for after about half an hour of beating back the six foot big bluestem in the Mount Prospect section.
