I have removed his address and phone number. For Peoria County researchers: I am not a subscriber but find myself in need of look-ups for the following situation: Charles Edward Maloon was born in February 1872 in Fulton County, IL. According to his father's civil war pension documents he was probably retarded. He may have moved to Peoria County, IL with his mother and brother in the 1890's. I have received his death certificate from Peoria County which indicates that he was murdered "in his shack at the foot of Sanger Street". He was apparently living alone and working as a "junker". He was last seen alive on 28 March 1938 and his body was discovered by his brother on 16 April 1938. According to the inquest/autopsy his death was caused by "two bullet wounds to the head inflicted by .38 calibre lead bullets" and he was "killed by party or parties unknown to Jury with murderous intent." The certificate states that he was buried in Springdale Cemetery in Peoria, IL. If anyone has access to the archives for a local paper for the period I feel certain there may have been some mention of the case in the week following the discovery of his body. I would appreciate receiving a copy of any articles on the case. If anyone has access to Springdale Cemetery I would appreciate receiving a transcription of the gravestone or a picture of same. While in the cemetery I would appreciate checking for his mother, Martha A. Maloon, who died in 1906 or his brother, Henry Harry Maloon, born 1874 and died after 1938. Henry's wife was Grace A. Maloon who died in 1920. Transcriptions or photos for any would be appreciated. Finally, he had a sister, Mary Ellen Maloon, born 1880 who probably was married in Peoria County. If there is any local record of her marriage I would appreciate a copy. I live near Washington, DC and frequently visit both the National Archives and the Library of Congress and would be willing to do lookups of census, military pensions, etc in return for the above research. If you can be of any assistance please contact me via one of the avenues below. Thank you very much. Michael Meloon meloonm@aol.com
