Hello Carol: What little I have is really no help, probably. Not long after the Ice Age, I lived in Peoria. My brother went to school with a Dan ( I suppose Daniel, really ) Barthell. This was at St. Mark's grade school and Spalding Institute (high school - now defunct). A BIG guy, thick glasses, bright guy; his family lived in West Peoria. He and my brother were buddies in grade and high school as I recall. I do not know anything of the family's whereabouts, livelihood, existence now. Dan's age, if still alive, would be about 62. My brother might know something. There is only one Barthell (two l's) in current Peoria phone book.
