    3. Carol ASHBY..... I was born in PEORIA in 1931, lived there through high school, returned after a NAVY tour. Regarding you questions.... the TB sanatorium was on the northeast side of Peoria past the upper free bridge/yatch club/ Murrison label factory. it was where the city bus turned around in 1947. near the current Galena Park nursing facility, where my brother is currently attended. It was not the poor house or the mental asylum. the "mental asylum" was located in the Bartonville area, To be exact "on the hill to the southwest side of Bartonville". Bartonville was about 1 mile south of the Peoria city limits. I still visit Bartonville/Peoria but have not checked the exact city limits, they may meet at the Kickapoo Creek. The mental health facility was closed several years about 20 perhaps. The records were transferred to the ZELLER mental health facility that is located on the northwest section of Peoria but still in the city. there were some farms on the west side of Peoria (toward FARMINGTON), ,just west of Belview Acres, that is now a county nursing facility. It is on joining property with a jail/correctional facility. Perhaps that was where the "poor farm" was. Sometimes they continue to utilize the property for the county. I hope this may help clear up some of the geography and the locations of some of the questioned areas.
