This is not uncommon. I will try to find what I can for you this afternoon. I've been trying for years to locate my ancestral grandmother's grave, obit , 1880 census entry and/or death information: Ann (nee' McGee) Ridgeway/Ridgway Purcell who was born about 1810-1815--married Peoria County in 1832 to John Ridgeway, who died in 1852. She md 2nd in 1854, Edward Purcell and they lived in both Peoria and Marshall counties. A Peoria County history notes in their pioneer group that Ann was still living at the time of its publication in 1880. I made a special trip to Peoria Co a few years ago to look through the Clerk of Court death register, but as any of you Peorians know, that office refuses to permit anyone to see their dockets and I had to come all the way back to central Iowa empty-handed. At that time I didn't check for a probate for Ann, but I did check for land records. I cannot find Ann PURCELL in the 1880 census, nor in the few cemetery listings have I found her grave under the name, PURCELL , yet I've been looking for Ann PURCELL and an 1869 pioneer meeting group in Marshall County lists her as 'Ann RIDGEWAY' rather than PURCELL--at that time she was widowed from Edward Purcell and perhaps she went back to her former surname, Ridgeway, for some reason. I'd deeply appreicate any information on this as I've hit a brickwall. C.
