    3. I am trying to find the Service Number for a person who was in WWII. He has just died (without offspring) and we would like to learn the # in order to get him a military headstone. Can anyone help aim me to a website or place that might be able to locate it? Diana <ddavis59@sc.rr.com> Website: http://www.my-ged.com/davis/ NOTE: ddavis@logicsouth.com is no longer valid

    3. Diana, This website will tell you how to order his military records. You can order them from the National Personnel Records Center in St. Louis. Be aware that a majority of the records were destroyed in a fire in 1973 but when I wrote for my fathers records, they sent me a recreation of his discharge papers ( it was 1 page) from alternate sources of information. It included his service number. You may have to send a copy of the death certificate along with your request. http://www.archives.gov/facilities/mo/st_louis/military_personnel_records/st andard_form_180.html Hope this helps. 3. Go to your state veterans office. They should be able to assist you. When my husband passed away, the cemetery manager contacted the veterans office and everything was taken care of by them.
