Thanks for answers regarding Indian statue. My friend said it was not the same one that is near Chillicothe now, but a standing one. I appreciate the help. May in So. Ca.
The only Indian statute along a river that I am aware of is that of Chief Blackhawk which Lenardo Taft constructed in the early 1900s above the Rock River across from Oregon, IL. It sits on a high bluff on the East side of the river. It is now a state park, but in the early years that site was an artist colony. I spent four years in Peoria at Bradley University and do not remember any in that area. Mel Martin
Hi! There is a very large wooden Indian at the entrance to Hopewell Estates, which is close to Chillicothe and has a Sparland address. It is close to the river and is the entrance to a large subdivision which has Indian names for the streets. Vivian
Hello list, An elderly lady told me when she was a young girl (the 20's & 30's) she used to come to visit relatives in Peoria and remembers an indian statue near Chillicothe. She said it was very near the river. I tried to find some information/pictures of it for her, but could not find any reference at all. Does anyone remember this statue or is she maybe remembering something in a different town? Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks, May in So. Ca.

I am still looking for any children of the following: FRANK(s)—Bobbie and wife Sarah E KIPER Bobbie (James Robert) married Sarah Dec 20, 1903 in Grayson County Ky. Bobbie was the son of Ezra Ward Frank and Margaret Spencer. Sarah was the daughter of Bates Kiper and Cora Craig. They are buried in Calvert Cemetery in Breckinridge county KY near McDaniels. I visited the cemetery in April of this year, 2003. There was a bouquet of flowers on the marker The grave marker has FRANK FATHER Bobbie 1877-1936 MOTHER Sarah. 1881-1952. Bobbie and Sarah appear in the Springfield, IL city directories for the following years—1917, 1918, 1923, and 1925. He worked at various factories in Springfield-Weavers etc.
Now that the state will no longer send death certificates the Illinois State Genealogical Society has a project to obtain them for people. For some counties this is cheaper than going to the County Clerk. In other counties it is not. N/S means "Not specified"
I have just finished doing some searching on the Illinois Death Index. Under the column Sex/Race, I sometimes see "N/S". Can anyone tell me what that stands for? Thanks. Karen
People don't always die where they or we think they should. Try a statewide search in the death index. I've found some missing people that way.
