    3. Dear Lyde, Very interesting! The image I found on Ancestry.com has Henry and Laura living at 218 Warner (?) Ave. Other streets on the same page are Oak and Adams. Yahoo Maps doesn't bring up anything for Warner, though apparently there is a Warner Ave or Lane in present-day Peoria. Could you send the entire text for the Hoffner entry? Many thanks! 3. Diana, How did you find this guy so fast? I'm a subscriber to Ancestry.com, but I thought the 1900 census was not indexed. I found some other relatives in the 1900 census in Streator, but I had to page through about 17 pages to find them. I'd be interested in any details you have. Many thanks! 1. [ILPEORIA-L] In search of Henry Hoffner
    2. Tim Bryant
    3. Dear Listers: I am writing to see whether anyone has information of any sort on my great-grandfather Henry Hoffner. He was born in 1868 in Illinois and likely married my g-grandmother Mina (Minnie) Kranz in Livingston County in 1891. After that the 1920 census puts a man of the same age in Peoria, working in a carnival and living with a woman named Laura. Henry was widely known to have a common-law wife, and he traveled a lot with carnivals. This same fellow appears in the 1930 census in Cherry, IL, living with Laura and managing the local theater. At the same time, Henry Hoffner is also listed as living in Streator with my grandma Minnie and their children. Does anyone have any recollections of Henry Hoffner, Minnie Hoffner, or this whole situation with the two wives? Henry died in 1955 and is buried in Riverview Cemetery in Streator along with Minnie and their children, but the story is that Minnie made the common-law wife sit at the back of the funeral parlor and did not introduce her to anyone. Many thanks! Tim Bryant

    3. Thanks Gary King! The word Saloon keeper was hard for me to read. I, too, am researching King from Botetourt co. Virginia. I have a Clara Irene King 1873-1956 on my tree, born in Fincastle, Botetourt co., Virginia, died in Iroquois co., Illinois but lived in McLean and Woodford co., Illinois mostly. Any connection? I suspect her parents were William King and Paulina Nofsinger King of Botetourt co., Virginia. 3. Are you researching in Tazewell County? Even if you are not you might be interested in joining the G&H. For an annual fee of $15-18 plus an option fee of $12 for a total of $27-30 you can have access to Heritage Quest. Heritage Quest is well worth $30 a year. http://www.tcghs.org/membership.htm Click on optional remote access for details. This is the least expensive way I've seen to get Heritage Quest if your public library doesn't provide it. It's an excellent resource for genealogists with census records, actual pages of more than 25,000 genealogy and history books and, coming this year, the PERSI index. I've talked about this resource before, noting it is only available to libraries. Here's a way to get it at home.
