Hello Jean: No, marriage records such as you want are not online. $7 will get you a certified copy from the County Clerk, Rm 101 Courthouse, 324 Main St., Peoria, IL 61602. Tell them the date (at least the year), names of bride and groom, WHICH record you want (in this case Marriage), number of copies, and what your relationship to them is. Sign and send the request along with the $7 cash, money order or bank draft (they do not accept personal checks!!) Bill in Denver

I'm researching the early settlers of Peoria Co. I really don't know anything about more recent times. Good luck with your search. Tasha: There is something wrong with the scenario you present. There is no St. Anthony Hospital in Peoria. There is one in Rockford, I believe.

Dear Peoria Rooters, Please disregard my earlier message regarding trying to locate Violet J. Bruce. As a result of someone nice soul giving me information, I was able to locate her. I appreciate all your help. Janis Mundy Reno, NV
Dear Listers, Do any of you good people know anything about a Benjamin LOGAN who md 11/06/1836, in Peoria Co., Sabrina PUTMAN? Is it possible that he is the same Benjamin Logan who was b 1806 in Mason County, KY, s/o Samuel and Phebe RICHARDS Logan? They moved to Champaign Co., OH about 1812 and Benjamin went to IL about 1835. The family said he married and raised a family in IL, but didn't seem to know his wife's name, or where they lived. Benjamin would be an only brother of my ancestor, Elijah Logan. Elijah bought out Benjamin's share of the family farm so Benjamin should have had some money to invest when he got to IL. Any clues would be welcomed. Ellen Logan Martin [email protected]
Dear Peoria "Rooters", I do hope someone there can give me direction. For years we have been searching for my husband's great uncle and his five brothers who were put in an orphanage in 1904. We have recently found the orphanage records from NYC, Children's Aid Society Records, Dates each of the six boys went on the Orphan Trains to Kansas, etc. Now we are working on each individual boy. Just today I got the funeral record for one of the boys who went on to become a world famous entomologist. The funeral records shows that his wife, VIOLET GOLDA JONES BRUCE, moved to 204 Oakcliff Court, Peoria, Illinois from Raleigh, North Carolina, shortly after husband's death which meant she would have arrived in Peoria probably in June or July, 1966. Does anyone have access to old telphone books, City Directories, etc.? Are there any relatives still in Peoria? What is the name of the newspaper where I could check for an obit? If Violet was the same age of her husband, she would have been born around 1895. Thanks so much in advance. Janis Mundy Reno, NV

a wee bit more information comes from the material sent me by [email protected]: there is a copy of a letter from some years ago, apparently from a granddaughter of William Oliver Ewing, Mrs. Robert H. Hurlbutt (Louise White Hurlbutt) In it, the writer tells that "One year, when Robert and I were East, we went up into Perry County, Pennsylvania, and to harrisburg, but many of the Pennsylvania records were burned. My next effort was to locate my Grandfather Ewing's family. He was a twin and born in Perry County, Pennsylvania. His parents and one brother died from small pox and the twins were raised by different families. In the 1850 census, I found a Jane Ewing and an Oliver Ewing living with a family but did not find Robert....... "Then in the National Archives in Washington, D. C., I found the 1850 and 1860 census listings....of William Ewing working for William Bird and in Fulton County, Robert Ewing, his twin, working for Richard Bird...." Additionally, many Bird's and Lane's and Proctor's intermarried with the Wilson's in the mid 1800's in Western Peoria and North East Fulton Counties. I very much suspect that Jane Ewing Wilson is the Jane mentioned above and that finding her parents will involve some checking of the 1830/40 Pennsylvania census, church records, probate and family court for Perry Co. I would suggest writing to the Glasford Gazette, PO Box 260, Zip 61533. They covered that area's news quite a bit in those days. Perhaps, too, there was a Farmington paper then that would be archived in the Macomb, IL Western Ill University archives. I don't have a URL immediately available for either location, but you should be able to find WIU's library by doing a search. Good luck -- the only thing I have in my database on a Ewing for that area is William Oliver Ewing who was born in Perry Co., PA in 1841. Perhaps he was a brother. In some other papers I have just received I see that there was a Richard Ewing also in the area, said to be William's twin brother and that they were both working as farmhands for different Bird families around Bird's corners, near Trivoli, in 1860. I know from a quick look at the papers that William Ewing and his Bird wife moved to Missouri for a time, then to Chicago, then, eventually, to Yates City, IL, not too far from Trivoli up in Knox Co. I don't see, right now, any reference to a Jane sister, but I'll look more carefully later. The papers are mostly about the Bird families of the area. Paul in Bflo
Could someone on the list be kind enough to advise me where I might be most likely to find an obituary for Jane E. Ewing WILSON. She died at the home of her daughter, Nellie Stookey, Trivoli, Peoria County, Illinois, on April 14, 1917, buried April 16, 1917 in Brunswick Cemetery. She was born in Pennsylvania October 10, 1836 and married John WILSON, born Indiana 1832; died Illinois 1911. Are any of the old newspapers on microfilm and in which archives might they be? Any information would be greatly appreciated, as we are stuck until we find the obituary. Apparently one appeared somewhere and there was a brother in Nebraska. We would like to find the parents, more particulars about the brother, and any little details that might help us in our research. Thank you for taking the time to read this. Alice

Hi, I don't think I have ever heard anything about the 2 having any connection. In fact, I have never heard anything about the alms house. Sorry. Bill McNett
Bill McNett, Thanks for describing your book. Are the Peoria State Hospital and County Alms House from the late 1800's where Belwood now stands two different places? Peggy
I have a copy of a poem written by Everett Hines, son of John Hines and Laura (Corrington) Hines that chronicles the history of the Hines School in Peoria from its beginning in 1840 through the Centennial celebration in 1940. The school was originally located on the John Hines farm, along Dry Run Creek, Richwoods Township. The Hines School is still operating today, and is located at 4603 N. Knoxville Ave., in Peoria. The poem talks about many of the students and teachers through the 100 years, and could be of interest to fellow genealogists. I am reluctant to post the whole poem on the list, due to its length, but would be happy to share it with anyone interested. I have it in MS Word format, and can send it as an attachment to an e-mail to you. Please reply to my e-mail address rather than tying up the entire list, and I will send it to you. If your e-mail does not handle attachments, I could also mail you a copy via snail mail. Any one with information about this Everett Hines, or John Hines, I would like to hear from. I would also like a look-up. I was told that my ggrandmother was sent there, but was also told that people from Quincy didn't go to Peoria. Her name was Caroline Jaeger. Her maiden name may have been Erickson. Thanks for any help.
