Looking for primary evidence of the parentage of Elbert Sell CARTER b) 16 Mar 1835, Union, OH d) 18 Apr 1909, St; Louis, MO. We have his parents as Levi CARTER and Elizabeth ORAHOOD. Both parents died in Peoria, IL, Levi (1876) and Elizabeth (1860-70). Elbert Sell CARTER was married to Emaline Gillet in Peoria, IL (27 Aug 1856). We can't seem to find a census record or anything else with Elbert as the child of Levi and Elizabeth, except the probate record of Levi's estate. In that document, his name is spelled "Albert" which brings it into question. His name is also spelled "Albert" on the 1860 IL census, where he is found with wife Emaline and son, Levi. Even an obituary or newspaper article, farm census, school or church record, would be helpful. Anyone have any ideas? Barb

Hello, I'm a newbie to this list. I've listed here names I'm researching that at one time or another were in Peoria. If you recognize anybody, please contact me. Thanks, Karen Foster Montgomery Louisa Jane Snyder married to John C. Page. Either one may have died/buried in Peoria, or Peoria Co. It's believed John died 1908 and Louisa died 1910.
i want to know if someone on the list can help me locate my biological mother
Does anyone know if there are cemetery records anywhere for the Concord Church Cemetery in or near Trivoli? If the cemetery records no longer exist, is there anyone who might have knowledge about this cemetery? I have never been there and back in the 1960's my mother paid a visit or two there and it was in very poor condition. It would be wonderful if we could obtain a better list of people buried there. Can anyone tell me about a band called Spencer's Band from Peoria, IL. In the book, History of Peoria County, my ancestor, Augustine Bushell is described as an "expert performer on the bass tuba and bass viol, and one of the organizers of the famous Spencer's Band". I don't know what year this book was written. Was it 1888? Looking forward to hearing what the history was behind this band. Andrea Hawk Crumrine
There was a new court house built in about 1967 while Lyndon Johnson was president. I remember that as Lady Bird dedicated it. I do now know of any such display in the new court house. Would any one know if there is such an exhibit in this building or any other building for that matter? He was also responsible for doing all the woodwork in this building as well. This would have been built prior to 1881 when he passed away. Any information would be greatly appreciated. ==== ILPEORIA Mailing List ==== Visit the Peoria County USGenWeb Home Page! http://www.rootsweb.com/~ilpeoria/peoria.htm

Dear Listers, I went to Peoria this past summer to do some research on the Gilbert's. In doing this research I found that Mary Gilbert was married to Albert Rufus Morgan. They had a son named Harry Dale Morgan. Harry Dale Morgan (died 7/1956) was the father of Mayor Robert D Morgan (mayor of Peoria). I would like to know if Robert D Morgan is still alive and how to contact either him or his decendants. Stephen Henry Gilbert and his children: Catherine Gilbert Charles Gilbert Thomas Gilbert Isabella (Belle) Gilbert Mary Gilbert George Washington Gilbert Edward Gilbert Stephen Henry Gilbert Jr. Many of these children, along with their father, moved to the Peoria area. Thank you for any infomation you may be able to provide. Jeanette Lawson Elk Grove,CA
I don't know if this is the one you seek, but there is a Robt. D Morgan listed in the Peoria phone book at 4444 N. Knoxville Ave. Peo., 309-682-7832. It might be the one you search for. It is the only Robt. D. in the directory. Good Luck Bill in Denver

Sue, Thank you for the suggestion of getting the marriage application. I just sent for the marriage certificate and was very disappointed in the information on it. The ones I got in Fulton Co. listed parents, birth place and date. I will try again. Tell them the date (at least the year), names of bride and groom, WHICH record you want (in this case Marriage), number of copies, and what your relationship to them is. Dear Listers; I have just joined this list and I am in need of some information. My mother today told me that my Grandmother married my grandfather in Peoria, IL. I would like to know if there are any marriage records on line for Illinois after 1915 to 1930? The name I am looking for is William H. Hawbercker married Ethel (Lawes) Boyer. William Hawbecker was born in Napierville, Illinois. Any help on this is greatly appreciated. Thank you. Jean Payton
Jean: You also might request (besides the marriage certificate) the application for their marriage. I received one for my great-grandparents who married in Peoria and it gives a lot more information! Sue Fritz
