Hello listers, I'm newly subscribed. Looking for filler information on family of Dr. John Dewey ARNOLD. He was elected to the Illinois State Senate in 1854. Member of the Illinois legislature in 1842-45. 1859 was elected as Mayor of Peoria. Appointed by President Lincoln as Consul to St. Petersburg, Russia in 1861. Also served U.S.House of Representitives for Illinois. 1863 died of TB. Thanks! Todd Anderson
I have a Joseph P. DAVIES 1884-1948, in Brown Co., IN., who changed his name to DAVIS. He married Gertie TURPEN July 1898, and Minnie FRYE Feb. 1905. Children born between 1898 and 1909 from the two wifes were: Mintha Mae W. *(date on his gravestone--buried beside Gertie--is Apr. 30, 1898) Isaiah Joseph Alvin Nellie L. Milo I. W. Davis gravestone date is "before" Joseph's first marriage to Gertie. Milo was last one listed--born in ca. 1909--there may have been more children later. I wonder if these children's children might have had a John. Thanks Linda ----- Original Message ----- From: Nancy Helvey <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: 02 February, 2000 12:46 PM Subject: [DAVIS] Rev. Several possibilities come to mind - in random order - and may not be the first places you should go. These are just some things that I do. 1. Do you know when/where Josephine died? If after 1916 and if in IL you could request an uncertified death certif from the State of IL online via http://www.vitalcheck.com/ and see if both parents are listed on certif. (fee involved). If before 1916, you need to know the county of death and write to that county's clerk office for death record if available. 2. Josephine was born in Peoria for sure? Then send a request to the Peoria clerk's office to get birth record giving all the info you have about her (parents names, poss dates of birth, etc) - maybe they have the document. (fifty cents per page). 3. Check out web site: http://www2.sos.state.il.us/cgi-bin/marriage and enter last names for either husband or wife to see if you find anyone. 4. Check the Peoria census for 1850 via e-mail to "[email protected]" a very good volunteer that does lookups of 1850-60-70 census putting "Peoria county Lookup" in your subject line and again giving all possible info you have. ----- Original Message ----- From: <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Saturday, January 22, 2000 9:48 PM Subject: [ILPEORIA-L] Josephine HANKS BOURNE 1850 or 1851 in Peoria > Hello list, > I am new to the list, and am researching my Hanks line. Thank you so much. I have the death certificate, but all it gives me is birth place, and date of death, cause of death, and that she was 53 years old at the time. I have checked the marriage records, can't find anything with Lydia Farmer Hanks, so she may not have remarried in Illinois. I know when Josephine was married and where, but the marriage license doesn't contain information on parents. I was going to order the census files, but I will check out the lookup, as that could be quicker. Thank you also for the idea about birth information. Hello list, I am new to the list, and am researching my Hanks line. I am searching for information on Josephine HANKS and her parents. Josephine HANKS was born in Peoria in 1850 or 1851. She was the daughter of ? Hanks and Lydia FARMER HANKS. Her father's nickname was Seymour Hanks, but Seymour was not his real name. "Seymour" fought in the Civil War from Illinois, and died at Andersonville Prison Camp. Unfortunately he enlisted under his real name, which I do not know, and was registered at Andersonville Prison Camp with the name Seymour. After his death, Lydia FARMER HANKS remarried, but I don't know who she married, which has led me to this brick wall! :( Josephine married Alfred BOURNE (AKA BOUREN) in Cook County, IL. I am looking for anyone who may be researching the family name Westerberger from Peoria County, IL. A Lorenz Westerberger married an Emilie Pauline SAUPE in 1865 in Peoria and I am trying to link her family to my SAUPE family. I am also looking for information on a Clara KIES who married Charles SAUPE in 1857 in Peoria. Or does anyone have any research for a Margareta Barbara FRANCE who married Ernest SAUPE in Peoria in 1857 or Mary Goebel who married Henry SAUPE in 1855 in Peoria? All these SAUPE family members I believe are brothers and sisters of my Gr-Gr-Grandfather Johannes Julius SAUPE.
Hi Everyone, Does anyone know about/have info on this family? FREDERICK H. FABER, born 1863 in Peoria married KATHERINE 'KATE' AHRENS , 1893. Katherine born 1869 Tazewell Co. I have been unable to locate marriage record. Have checked Peoria and Illinois marriage index. No record in Iowa where her family was living at this time. They had two children. A son born about 1894 - name unknown and he died before 1900. A daughter born 1895 named HESTER. The family was living on Bigelow street per the 1900 census. Frederick died 1915 and Kate died 1935 and both buried Springdale cemetary. What happened to Hester? She was unmarried in 1935 and listed as an artist in the directory. Any information would be appreciated. Thanks, HDZJ97A (D. Hilliard)

Hi: Could someone tell me how you go about getting a copy of an Illinois civil war muster out roll? Thanks, Judy in Ks
It means he was mustered out after being held prisoner of war. He may have been exchanged in a prisoner exchange where they agreed to muster out and not return to the fighting. > > > M.O. under authority of S.O. No. 125 P + Hd Q? S.V.R.S. Ill Paroled > Prisoner (?) >
I'm hoping someone on the list can help me out. I just received a copy of the Civil War Muster and Descriptive Roll of a portion of Company H. 85th Infantry Regiment of Illinois Volunteers from the Illinois State Archives. In the Remarks field for my gggrandfather, as well as another man on the page, is written: M.O. under authority of S.O. No. 125 P + Hd Q? S.V.R.S. Ill Paroled Prisoner (?) That is the best I can do at reading the line of writing. Does anyone know to what this may refer? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you. Christina Strickland Oregon City, OR
