Thank you Dick (nice to hear from you again) and Russ. It clicked inside my head as a little girl that it was named that for a reason. Luanne
It was not War Memorial Dr. in 1947. As the street cars ended and turned around at the Stadium and went back downtown. It was "way out in the country " then. I would like to know for which war or wars War Memorial Drive (Rt. 150) was named. Is there a marker on the road that identifies the war or wars for which it was named. Also, when was it named War Memorial Drive? Thanks, Luanne
Hi, Oakwood Manor was owned by Ray Becker and run by his brother Bill Becker, it was sold and is now Sharon Woods at 3311 N. Richwoods Blvd. Peoria, IL 61614. As to what records they may still have I am uncertain as they only have to keep then for 7 years. Penny
I found an obit today that listed the person as having gone to the hospital from Oakwood Manor. Can anyone tell me if it has changed names or what happened to it? I'm hoping to find some records that would help me in my search. Thanks for your time. Linda
Good afternoon listers and listees, Looking for any connections out there to the KORTH or THATCHER families who lived in the Trivoli and Elmwood areas in the mid-later 1800's through 1950's. Thank you, Tami

IL After that they lived in Brimfield. ggg-grandfather was "Darby" Murphy born in Ireland but don't know where. His first wife died in Ohio and he married Mary Ellen Ryan. Other family members in the area under the names of Ryan, Carigan (or Carrigan) and Doubet. They resided in Brimfield in the 1850s. 1850 census list a James Murphy born in Ireland (age 30) Six children William, Mary, Ester, Catherine, Margaret and a name I can't read. Doesn't seem to be a wife listed. They resided in Peoria. Hello Sue: I am no help, but thought I'd write anyway. My G-grandfather, Richard J. DEADY, was from Co.Kilkenny and I think Kilkenny city. Born there 1859, he died in Peoria in 1905 and is buried in St. Mary's Cemetery in Peoria. My dad wrote some notes in which he claimed his grandfather was known in Peoria as the "Kilkenny Cat". He married Mary Ann CANNON from Ireland; I think from Co. Mayo, but have no proof of that. They were married in September of 1891 in Peoria; how long either had been in the U.S. or Peoria I do not know. There is a group of four DEADY people buried at St. Mary's and all died within a four-year period. I do not know where they were from and do not yet know if they were somehow related to Richard J., but expect they were. This looks, from dates on tombstones, like mother-father-2 sons. I have presently no indication of where they came from. There is also a Richard MURPHY in my family tree; he married Catherine CANNON,. one of the sisters of Mary Ann (so, presumably, also from Co. Mayo). I have been unable to even find his grave, but expect it is also in St. Mary's. I have found a grave of two children (next to the grave of the mother of Catherine and Mary Ann, Bridget Catherine CANNON) who were the "children of John and Katherine MURPHY". This, of course, confuses me, because I read in Dad's notes that a Richard Murphy married K/Catherine CANNON. Mysteries linger. Confusion abounds. Answers remain elusive. Bill Gorman (remember me? we have communicated before) P.S. I have a photo of a tombstone of a MURPHY family: "James MURPHY born in Co. Kilkenny Ireland 1831-1904" "Margaret MURPHY his devoted wife 1833-1912" also on same very large stone is: "Catherine his mother 1793-1890" (I assume this means the mother of James) "John their son 1866-1886" "Michael C. their son 1868-1926"
Seek burial site of Jacob ROSS who died 15 May 1838, Peoria, IL. I have his probate and land records there. I am descended from his son, George and wife Hannah (HUGHES) ROSS. Bernice
I would like to see if anyone on this list has ancestors who settled in Peoria and were from County Kilkenny Ireland. I have searched and searched and have been unsuccessful (so far) at learning where my ggg-grandparents, James H. and Alice Reed Murphy came from in Kilkenny. I thought perhaps we could learn of some patterns of place names if we pooled our efforts. Sue Fritz
The Davison Candy Store that was open from July 7, 1895-December 31, 1905 was on 1409 Main Street. I am not sure what the name of it was, and William James and Katherine May Lyman Davison lived above the store. Anyone know a lead to follow on this? In going through the Title Abstract of our home in Peoria, Illinois, I came across the following items that I thought may be helpful to anyone searching for information on the KIRKPATRICK family from Peoria, IL. I just wish that someone would come across similar information on my families! ______________________________________________________________________ >From Peoria County, Illinois: A Special Warranty Deed, Dated March 9, 1835, Acknowledged March 10, 1835, and Filed March 12, 1835 in Book E, page 1: John G. Lowrie, Esq., a Justice of the Peace in and for the County of Allegheny and State of Pennsylvania, as well as a Notary Public, duly commissioned and sworn, residing in the City of Pittsburg, personally came Mr. James Adams and John Semple, both credible witnesses, and being duly sworn, according to law, do depose and say that they are both natives of Ireland (West Britton) that they were personally acquainted with Archibald Kirkpatrick (tailor) of the Parish of Bellareshaw, of the County of Londonderry and also with his family; that he had but two sons, viz: James and John. That the son John emigrated to America some twelve or more years ago, and that John Semple above named saw said John Kirkpatrick some eighteen or twenty months ago in Pittsburg and that he then told him he had bought property in the State of Illinois. That both are well acquainted with his surviving brother James Kirkpatrick who with his family and his mother, set out from Ireland with his mother after the death of the father the said Archibald some seven years or more ago, and that said Archibald died some years ago before that time and from what they learned, they have no doubt that the mother died on her passage to America, and that the said James Kirkpatrick is now the sole survivor.
