William Booth is listed on the 1930 U.S. Federal Census, Illinois, Peoria Co., Peoria City (district 47). He is shown as a father-in-law living in the household of James T. Walford, age 56, b. IL, and his wife Mary J., age 51, b. England. William Booth is aged 75, widowed, born England. William and Mary are noted as having emigrated to the U.S. in 1884. The reason "MFB" could not find it is because he is listed in the index under Willian Booth (MFB - try being a bit less specific in your searches to get better results, I plugged in just "Wil*" and "Booth*" and found it). Ann, if you'd like a copy of this census page, send me your mailing address -- off-line! -- and I will mail it to you. Hi Ann, The 1927 Peoria City Directory shows a Wm. Booth renting at 102 N. Bourland. There also is Coughlin, Richd R (Hannah) chauf h222 Sherman av. The 1936 Peoria City Directory shows a Wm. Booth renting at 222 Sherman av. Also Margt M Coughlin, student, renting at 222 Sherman av. There is also a listing for Mrs. Hannah B. Boothe, who owns a house at 306 Fredonia. She is not listed in the 1927 Directory. Neither listing for Wm. mentions an occupation nor a wife. I have directories for other years as well, if they might help; the list is at my website at http://freepages.history.rootsweb.com/~karensfamilyfiles/PeoriaIndex.html Karen Hammer --- Ann Schofield <schofieldann@talk21.com> wrote: > Hi > I wonder if any one can help me, I am > looking for any info on William Booth b. 1855 > in Bolton Lancashire, his wifes name was Hannah > Hunt and their children Mary Jane b. 1879 and > Alice b. 1880 (all born in Lancashire) they > emigrated to the USA around 1890 > I have just received a copy of William's death > certificate which states that he died at 222 > West Sherman Ave West Peoria in 1936 the > informant on the death certificate is a > Margaret A Coughlin > Could anyone please advise me as to what > Census's are available in the US and also if > there is any records on line on Cottonwood > cemetery, Rosefield Peoria > regards Ann in > Lancashire > > > ==== ILPEORIA Mailing List ==== > List problems? I am searching for the burial place of Mary (Lightholder) Storey and her daughter Harriet or Hannah, in the 1870s. A correspondent wrote me that yet another researcher back in the 1970s was looking for their burial places in Radnor Twp., Peoria Co. where both the Lightholders and the Storeys lived in the 1860s, possibly in or near a now extinct town named Orange Prairie. The Lightholders lived in 1860 in Richwoods Twp., Peoria Co., and in 1865 in Radnor Twp., Peoria Co. By 1870 the Lightholders and some Storeys and a related family, the Elsons, had moved to Chenoa, McLean Co., IL. It is possible that Mary and her daughter were buried there instead. I descend from Mary's brother Thomas Lightholder. Linda Lightholder Kmiecik
I noted two Distler marriages in Peoria - Andrew married Mary A. SIPP June 9, 1878; and Phillip married Fredericke M. Rauschkolb on May 29, 1873. I think these are brothers enumerated in City of Peoria 1870 census page 217: DESTLER, Powell [?] 47 Baden furniture dealer Johanna 49 Baden John 21 Baden farm laborer Philipp 19 Baden Andrew 15 IL Margaret 17 IL Powell 7 IL HUFFER, Conrad 21 Baden cabinet maker GRASER, William 26 Baden cabinet maker ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ I've typed below the biographical sketch of Andrew Distler from History of Peoria County, Illinois - Munsell Publishers 1902. DISTLER, ANDREW: born in Peoria August 15, 1856; son of Paul Distler, a native of Bamberg, Bavaria, and Johanna (ZIETZ) Distler, a native of Munich, Bavaria. Mrs. Distler (the mother) died May 0, 1901 at eighty-on years of age. Her husband was a cabinet-maker, who came to America with his family in 1850 and lived two years in the State of New York. Coming to Peoria in 1852, he began working at his trade, and operated a furniture factory for about a year, but closed it in 1861, when he enlisted in Co. R.G. Ingersoll's Regiment, the Eleventh Illinois Cavalry, of which he was for some time drill-master. On the organization of the Fourteenth Illinois Cavalry, he was made Captain of Coimpany B of that regiment and served with it till he was captured soon after Stoneman's Raid, afterwards being imprisoned at Atlanta and Charleston. For a time he was Provost Marshall at Macon, Georgia. While with his regiment he took part in all the battles in which it was engaged. and was commended for bravery by General Sherman in his Memoirs. He returned to Peoria after the war and, from 1870 to 1880, was engaged in the manufacture of furniture. He put in the interior finish and office furniture of the Peoria Court House and of several banks. He died in 1882 at the age of fifty-six. Andrew Distler began work in his father's shop at the age of twelve years and, in later years, had charge of much of the fine work which they put up. After the death of his father he continued the business, at a later date being superintendent of several large wood-working establishments. Between 1895 and 1900 he had a proprietary interest in a factory where fine interior finish and store and bar fixtures were made. On the organization of the Archarena Companyh in Peoria in 1900, he became it's Superintendent. Mr. Distler and Mary A. Sipp were married in Peoria June 9, 1878 and have three children: Fred William, Veronica and Florence M. Mr. Distler is a member of Western Lodge of Odd Fellows. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ If you're looking only for living descendants, the exact death date of some of your Distlers are at Illinois Deaths database. With the exact death date, you can check the obits for living relatives at the time of death. Andrew died 1942; Paul died 1937 and John died 1937. Here is the site in case you don't have that: http://www.sos.state.il.us/departments/archives/genealogy/forms/idphdeathsrch. html I hope this helps. Lyde

Does anyone on the Peoria list have a connection to the family of my great-aunt Mary Cooper Hartman, whose parents were Harvey and Annette Atwood Cooper from Peoria ? I'm interested in whether there are any Coopers still in the area. Mrs. Hartman was the wife of Oluff (Bert) Hartman, my mother's uncle. The Hartmans were originally from Peoria but moved to California in about 1904. Mel Slane Peoria, IL
