Thanks Bryn >>> <ILOGLE-L@rootsweb.com> 5/27/98 10:30:32 PM >>> Bryn, I found some of my records for the HITTS', as promised. As one of the list members has already stated the name of the Cemetery is Oakwood. I found a photocopy I had taken from the Oakwood book at the Rockford Library, listing all the HITTS' buried in the Cemetery. Here is how it reads: HITT John W. b. Washington Co. Md. Aug. 10 1831 d, Koshkonong, Mo. Sept. 3 1903 Samuel N. Jan. 22, 1799, (not clear if the day is 22- 23- 28), Nov. 10, 185?, (the last #s have been written in, and this is all that shows. 185 for the year. Catharine EMMETT - Hershey Oct. 17, 1784 - Nov. 10, 1871 Barbara HERSHEY - wife Samuel, Dec. 25, 1805 - Feb. 2, 1880 George W. - Son - Oct. 6, 1831 - Aug. 2, 1851 (Again not sure of these years) Samuel M. 1872 - 1953 Mary Ella - daugh. - SM/B - d.Sept 18, 1854 (must have died at birth ) Samuel M. - son - SM/B - d. Mar. 2, 1845 - 12 yrs. Pamela M. - 1833 - 1923 Robert S. - 1828 - 1894 Edith A. - d. Apr. 4, 1897 - 24 yrs. Freddie G. - son - G.E./S.A. - d. Aug. 16, 1870 - 1 yr. 1 m. 3 d. Joseph E. - Jan. 15, 1836 - July 28. 1878 - Capt. Co. M. 4 Cav. Electa M. 10-2-1826 - 11-8-1855 Andrew M. - 9-23-1828 - 5-2-1899 Sibyl M. SAMMUS - wf.- 10-9-1839 - 5-28-1885 There are many more HITTS' buried at Oakwood, I believe, but I do not have a photocopy of their names. The other group of Hitts' are buried at the other end of the cemetery, and have a huge tombstone. I believe this is the plot of Samuel's brother, Rev. Thomas S. HITT. I have a photocopied picture of the Rev., which tells some history of he and his family. I also have a few obits. of the HITTS'. I'll send the obits. and some other things tomorrow, if you think they can help you. Too late for more tonight. Oh, by the way, I saw KNODLES' mentioned in your listings, their are 3 KNODLES' listed on the HITT page of the cemetery. Jonathon, Mary, and son Bennie. I also found a small biographical article on Samuel KNODLE. I'll send the dates of the births and deaths, and copy the article if you are interested. Till Later, Ellen
