In a message dated 98-05-13 20:19:30 EDT, you write: << Dear Brian and all, I appreciate your enthusiasm! But I must let you know that posting information taken directly from the census, marriage records, cemetery records, etc... is not allowed. This information is sold by the genealogy society and is their only real way of making money. They have the rights to this >> Sorry, but I have a hard time with this. I have researched many census records at the library, read many books, researched cemetery and court house records, etc. and exchanged information on many mailing lists and no one has ever questioned doing this. Census records on microfilm and books are available to anyone at the library. If we are not allowed to exchange what we have learned, this list will not last very long and will be of little value. How can the genealogical society have rights to these public records? I'm a supporter of the Ogle Co. Genealogical Society but cannot agree with this. Roger Cramer
