Hi, We just went through this on another list and any records over 70 years old are records for public information. This means anything that is available out there to the public can be used. Information in published books can also be used but not the full context of the book. We had this checked out with an attorney. Every book that I have or anyone else has and does look-ups can share their information that is in the book. All this is doing is sharing what one has and nine times out of ten we all list our sources and page #'s where the source was found. Every list that I have been on if someone has vital records in book form they give the information out, the name of the book, the author, and the page number. You are not putting the whole book on the list but excerpts of the book that anyone can get if the go to the library and get it on library loan. I have even had information sent to me, copies of pages in a copyrighted book, that pertain to my family that the information came to me over a list. This is what genealogy is all about, sharing the information that you have found with others who are still searching. Bryn, I think that if you posted the information that you have access too and someone wants you to do a lookup in those books or CD's that would be safer than listing ALL the records and you an post them to the list so that everyone can see the reply as this list is set up to reply to the list rather than replying to the author. The reason for that is to try and bring everyone into the discussion and keep the list more interesting rather than replying to the specific person.
