He was busy founding Free Will Baptist churches while in Illinois and then also back in Ontario Canada where he was born and in Wisconsin where he later settled. I found him in Bloomingville Precinct, an earlier name for Byron, in the 1840 census and I noted with delight that the ennumerator for that census was Lucius Reed whose connection to the underground railroad there is documented. I could just picture him going door to door and asking, "And how old is Mary? Are there any other children? And do you happen to have an extra room where you could accomodate guests?"
