    1. [ILOGLE] Volunteers for State Archives Project

    3. Hello List, As many of you may know the State Archives in Springfield has been working for the last few years getting different indexes on line. These include a Statewide Marriage Index and also the more recent 1916-1950 Death index. There are also indexes for different things pertaining to Ogle Co. such as the Naturalization index and Alms house records. Below is the link. http://www.cyberdriveillinois.com/departments/archives/databases.html What you may not know is this is all done through volunteers. I am presently working on the Pre-1916 death index for Cook County, IL, and I inquired if there are records for Ogle, which there are. I have learned there there is pre-1916 death records also. Below is a portion of the letter I received from the Archives. --------------------------------------- We do have Ogle County death records to be entered into the Pre-1916 Death Index. For counties other than Cook County, we are currently looking for volunteers who have Internet access as well as access to a microfilm reader. We normally send microfilm copies of original death registers or certificates to the volunteers and they enter the data from the microfilm into the online data entry form on the Illinois State Archives Web site. The data is uploaded into the main death database periodically. Many of our volunteers take the microfilm to a local library and transcribe the data, then return home to enter the data online using their computers. It is not necessary to have a microfilm reader at your home. ----------------------------------------------- Before I agree to take this on, I would like to know how many people would be interested in helping out-- there is no quota, meaning that they expect you to complete xx number each week. Only that we all work at it. Some weeks I can enter 400-600 entries for Cook and other weeks 200-- sometimes I miss a week and do not enter at all. Just letting them know if I am away or sick etc. I think this is a great way for people to help from their home with no cost, just time. Laurie Hendricksno [email protected]
