    3. These OGLE families had men that enlisted in the Union Army in the early 1860's. One LINGG son, Joseph W. stayed in the eastern U.S.and fought for the Union in a Phildelphia Unit. He was killed on the battlefield at Spottsylvania, VA in May 1864. Joseph Anthony LINGG: (sometimes spelled LING) was baptised in Switzerland. 1816 Joseph came to America at about age 4 with his parents and siblings. He married Judith V. FIRTH in Philadephia in 1834. 1858, 1859 Joseph bought land in the village of Grand Detour, Ogle Co, IL. (Ogle Co. Recorder's records-deeds) 1860 Federal Census, Gran Detour Twp., Ogle Co., IL dwelling #2803 Family # 2708 Joseph Ling, 48, engineer, b. Switzerland Judith Ling, 51, b. NJ Elizabeth, 25, b. ? ( in 1867 she married Elbridge G. STAPLES, a Civil War veteran, in Ogle County ; in 1870 he worked in a plow shop in Grand Detour) Mark W., 18, day laborer, b. NJ (Mark died of Civil War injuries in 1863) Silas, 9, b. Delaware (went to Iowa in 1866 and later to Arkansas) Henry, 7, b. NJ (my gggrandfather, went to Washington and Oregon after he was orphaned in 1868) Joseph A. LINGG, age 49, enlisted in Union Army October 31, 1861 at Bloomington, McClean Co., IL., Co. F, Missouri Regiment, Engineers of the West; Medical discharge May 18, 1862 because his age & Chronic Rheumatism made him unfit for duty. (His military file held by NARA in Washington D.C.) Joseph was an engineer in a plow factory in Grand Detour, IL. (Bio of his son, Silas Lingg, in Goodspeed's "Biographical & Historical Memoirs of Eastern Arkansas", pg. 783) Grand Detour Cemetery Association Lot and Burial Record: Joseph Anthony LINGG purchased 6 Lots at $5.00 per lot Joseph Anthony Lingg is buried in Grand Detour Cemetery, Ogle Co., IL (section 3) along with sons, Mark W. LINGG, and Joseph W. LINGG, and daughter Elizabeth Lingg STAPLES. Son John F. LINGG was attending school in Camden co., NJ when the 1860 census was taken . He joined the Union Army in Oregon, IL in Feb 1864 and was honorably discharged in Louisville, KY in July 1865. Altho there is a grave marker for John F. LINGG in Grand Detour Cemetery, Ogle Co., IL (section 3) he is buried in the Veteran's Admin. Cemetery, Leavenworth Co., KS. After he left Ogle Co. John F. lived in Iowa and Oklahoma.
