Doctorow Named in 1998 for the noted author, the E.L Doctorow Local History Collection contains historical and other material on New Rochelle, Westchester County, and New York State. There are approximately 1500 books, on such topics as Biography and Genealogy, Government, Organizations, Places, Business and Industry, Transportation, Maps and Atlases, and Newspapers and Magazines. There is also a large Clippings File of some 82,885 items, obtained from local newspapers, magazine clippings, New York Times items, obituaries, local association and art show programs, etc. Subjects covered here include Biography, History, Organizations, Places, Business and Industry, and Transportation. The materials in this collection do not circulate. The collection is housed on the 2nd floor of the Library. The New Rochelle Photograph Collection is made up of over 1,000 photographs donated by Dominick Bruzzese and the Huguenot-Thomas Paine Historical Association. In 1988, in celebration of New Rochelle's Tricentennial, these photographs were reproduced on acid-free paper with funds provided by a Discretionary Grant from the New York State Program for the Conservation and Preservation of Library Research Material. These reproductions are filed in five notebooks according to subject (for example, churches, clubs, streets, business, and the waterfront). This collection is also housed on the 2nd floor. Copies of these photographs may be ordered through our Community Relations office for $8.00 per print. Please call (914) 632-7878 ext. 20 or 21 for more information or come visit us.
