It was started officially in 1916 throughout the state, and there is a state index for Ogle as well as all counties. http://www.cyberdriveillinois.com/departments/archives/databases.html There is the link to all databases the state offers. Also at the top there is a link to the fees for non IL residents. As for if there are death records before that time at the court house or elsewhere in Ogle maybe someone else from here knows Laurie Ogle IL

    3. My understanding is that before 1916, if a Dr. was called in due to a death resulting from unnatural causes(illness, accident, childbirth...) and/or the deceased had been under a Dr.'s care then a death certificate may have been issued. My GGG grandmother fell and died from injuries , hence a death cert. in 1908. If you know the county in which a person died, as long as you have the date of death then it doesn't hurt to call the County Clerk's office and ask. 3. The first volume of Ogle Co death registers, with deaths starting in 1878 is on LDS microfilm. Index to deaths, 1878-1953; register to deaths, 1878-1901, Authors Ogle County (Illinois). County Clerk Index to deaths, v. A 1878-1953 FHL US/CAN Film 1420762 Item 1 Register to deaths, v. 1, no. 1-1473 1878-1901 FHL US/CAN Film 1420762 Item 2 Not all deaths are recorded, but if you wrote the county and asked for a certificate, they would look in the registers and transcribe from there. Unfortunately, parents' names are not recorded, though date and place of birth may be. Request the film at your local Family History Library. Mabry Benson
