Friends, several weeks ago i messaged you about the roughly 130 Woodcock letters from Col. Woodcock to his wife Lute nee Dake during his service in the Ill mounted infantry volunteers. the originals are in the Pearce Civil War Collection at Navarro Junior College, Coriscana, Texas. I there are not woodcocks or dakes surviving in your area, the society itself ougtht to be interested in having transcriptions of that very interesting corrspondence in its files. to obtain that, e-mail Julie Holcomb, the archivist, at [email protected] now that i have done you that pleasant favor, you may please remove me from your e-mailing list. Thanks. The Rev. Dr. Rich. Dinda [email protected]
I am no relation but there was a Captain Albert Woodcock who was the commanding officer of Company K, 92nd Illinois Mounted Infantry Volunteers during the Civil War. He is listed as being from Oregon, IL, my hometown. I do have a Civil War book entitled "Blue Lightning" which has his military photo. My great grandfather, also in the 92nd IL, was married in Ogle County in 1873. The county clerk who signed his marriage license was Albert Woodcock. It is my understanding that Albert would not charge the marriage license fee to any of his boys from the "Old 92nd". Thank you for this wonderful find!!! Sincerely, Layne (Mr.) Layne A.
